Reliure plein vélin, dos lisse orné d'une longue pièce de titre en veau olive, avec titre frappé à l'or fin. ÉDITION ORIGINALE; RARE. - La première réfutation du célèbre « Manuscrit venu de Sainte-Hélène, d'une manière inconnue », publié anonymement à Londres plus tôt cette même année. Ce mystérieux "manuscrit", apologie des actions et des intentions de Napoléon Bonaparte, aurait été écrit par Napoléon lui-même ou par un ami proche. Rapidement dénoncée comme fraude, l'ouvre fut longtemps diversement attribuée à Madame de Staël, Charles Tristan Comte de Montholon, Benjamin Constant et EJ Sieyes avant que Frédéric Lullin de Châteauvieux (1772-1841) de Genève, ami de Madame de Staël, ne soit établi comme auteur.
