At the end of 1730 s the Royal London College of Physicians decided to modify their Pharmacopoeia to both simplify the recipes for drugs preparing the dispensatory and to put them in a better order. The chairman of the project was Henry Pemberton 1694-1771. Once the work was finished The Royal College of Physycians published it in 1745 as always their did in Latin. And immediately afterwards they innovated by publishing it also in English in 1746 with the title of The Dispensatory of the Royal College of Physicians. English version included a text in our opinion seminal which did not appear in the Latin edition: a large narrative by Henry Pemberton of the reasons that led to the change in the structure of the Pharmacopoeia and the criteria used to decide it. An interesting and genuine sample of how the advancement in knowledge was assumed and how it modifyed the way on doing science and offering its results by reflecting in this case the importance of Chemistry advances in Pharmacy. This English version was the one that was successfully translated into French by the excelllent chemist Poulletier de la Salle. In 1761 he published the first volume present in all that we offer with the translation of Pemberton s narrative and an extensive dictionary from his own of the simple and compound products involved in the recipes of the Dispensatory. We do not know why but the publication stopped and it was not resumed until 1771 when the Parisian bookseller Didot jeune took up the rest of the first edition changed the title-page that s why there are some copies that have their name the date of 1771 and the substitution of Première partie with Tome première and published the second volume announcing that the third was in press. This first printing of the second volume covers only the first half of the London Dispensatory because Poulletier added to the original recipes magnificient explanations about what could happen during the elaboration of both the drugs or their composite components and how to solve these problems if they appeared for what he got ahold above all from his countless experiments which had led him to be the first for example to isolate cholesterol crystals to determine the presence of phosphoric acid in bones or to identify saline alkaline substances in bile. Finally notwithstanding the bookseller advertisement in the bookshop catalogue at the end of the volumen two which said the third volume was being printed it never came into light as far as we know. Pelletier s authorship of the dictionnary and of the very large commentaries can be ratified in the Medicine volumes published in the Panckoucke s Encyclopédie Méthodique where a lot of them were collected with this authorship mention. He never published anything with his name perhaps because he had not academic titles: he was only an amateur so rich and philanthropist that he completely funded and mantained several Parisian hospitals. But the quality of his work may be acreditated with the fact that he was the first people to be called as free fellow of the Société Royale du Médécine before the well knowed chemists Macquer and Lavoisier."
