The story follows the adventures of a young journalist named Christopher Bellew who takes on the pseudonym ""Smoke"" Bellew to cover the Klondike gold rush. Smoke is a man of action always eager to take on a challenge and he soon finds himself embroiled in a series of exciting and dangerous situations. The novel is set in the late 19th century and is a vivid portrayal of life in the Yukon during the gold rush. London's descriptions of the harsh landscape and the struggles of the miners are both vivid and compelling. Smoke's adventures take him from the bustling city of San Francisco to the remote wilderness of the Yukon where he encounters a host of colorful characters including gamblers prospectors and Native Americans.Throughout the novel Smoke is driven by his desire for adventure and his thirst for gold. He is a complex character with a mix of bravery recklessness and cunning. As he navigates the treacherous world of the gold rush he must confront his own limitations and learn to rely on his wits and his instincts.Smoke Bellew is a thrilling adventure story that captures the spirit of the Klondike gold rush. It is a classic novel by one of America's greatest writers and it continues to captivate readers with its vivid characters exciting plot and richly detailed setting. In the beginning he was Christopher Bellew. By the time he was at college he had become Chris Bellew. Later in the Bohemian crowd of San Francisco he was called Kit Bellew. And in the end he was known by no other name than Smoke Bellew. And this history of the evolution of his name is the history of his evolution. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting preserving and promoting the world's literature in affordable high quality modern editions that are true to their original work.
Kessinger Publishing hardcover

A zealous missionary sets out to spread the Gospel in a land of cannibals. The son of a Polynesian chief becomes the slave of a white man. These stories and others portray life in the South Seas in the days of tall ships a century ago. In powerful and compelling language that seems not the least bit dated Jack London tells eight tales of high daring and great savagery of bravery and death even of occasional humor that could only take place in the exotic South Sea islands. Based around themes London considered important -- race culture justice and heroism -- the stories derive their intensity from the author's own far-flung adventures conveying an impassioned unsparing vision borne only of experience.
Blackstone Pub hardcover
