Mit Aufkommen des gegen die Emanzipation gerichteten bürgerlichen und akademischen modernen Antisemitismus gehörte Lazarus zu den ersten, die mit Reden, Büchern und jüdischer Selbstorganisierung auf Heinrich von Treitschkes antisemitischen Angriff reagierten. Duvotenay et 195 gravures en noir hors texte, Tables des matières, Explications des planches, L'auteur, né le 17 juin 1794 à Paris où il est mort le 16 mai 1860, etait un helléniste, épigraphiste, archéologue et traducteur français. Maître de conférences à l’École normale supérieure, responsable de la bibliothèque de la Sorbonne, membre de l'Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres, président de l'Institut de France. Il est surtout connu comme le précepteur de Napoléon III. Nos deux volumes font partie d'une ambitieuse collection qui nous permet de découvrir l'histoire, la géographie, les mœurs et la description de tous les peuples du monde entier. Des textes écrit par des "spécialistes" de l'époque et avec ssurtout de très belles cartes et gravures en noir hors texte. Belle présentation dans une agréable reliure d'époque en très bon état. RARE. Très bon état général; quelques très légères épidermures sur les deux reliures maus restaurées; rousseurs éparses habituelles
