The first edition in English of this novel charting the journey of a follower of Judaism to the Holy Land by Prussian court preacher and theologian Frederick Strauss 1786-1863. First published in four volumes in Elberfeld in 1820 this edition translated by John Kenrick 1788-1877 includes copious notes on the Jewish rituals and customs referenced in the work. .
