Ein Teil der Aufage war für die Mitglieder des Nederlandsch Verbond van Boekenvrienden bestimmt. - Die Druckerei Duwaer hat sich nicht nur um Fragen der Typographie und schöne Buchgestaltung verdient gemacht, ihr Leiter Frans Duwaer leistete auch durch das Drucken von Dokumenten und gefälschten Personalausweisen der nationalsozialistischen Besetzung Widerstand. - "Franciscus Duwaer (Amsterdam, 1 januari 1911 - Overveen, 10 juni 1944) [...] was directeur van het familiebedrijf J.F. Duwaer & Zonen, een drukkerij en uitgeverij aan de Nieuwe Looiersgracht 45-47 in Amsterdam. Hij slaagde er tijdens de oorlog in goede valse persoonsbewijzen (PB's) te maken, inclusief goed ondergrondpatroon en watermerk. Hij had hiervoor een speciale zet- en gietmachine aangeschaft, waarmee hij het goede lettertype kon maken. Samen met G.J. van der Veen en W.J.C. Arondeus vormde hij de kern van de Persoonsbewijs Centrale (PBC). Op 27 maart 1943 vond een aanslag plaats op het Bevolkingsregister van Amsterdam, waarna controle van de falsificatie van de PB's onmogelijk was. De PBC had eind 1943 ongeveer 100 medewerkers. De valse PB's werden uitsluitend op zondag gedrukt, in 1942 en 1943 bijna iedere zondag, in totaal mogelijk ruim 60.000 PB's. Ook maakten zij ongeveer 75.000 tweede-distributiestamkaarten, bonkaarten, allerlei Ausweise, doopbewijzen, briefhoofden etc. Duwaer werd op 8 juni 1944 door de Sipo gearresteerd en twee dagen later in de duinen bij Overveen gefusilleerd. "In its amplitude and the sheer audacity of the presentation this engraving is indisputably one of Bast's most significant creations. It is as much a portrait of the harbour of Amsterdam as of the city itself and underscores the unique importance of maritime trade as the principle source of the city's wealth and power". With its distinctive orientation he not only initiated the series of representations of Amsterdam as seen from the IJ but also "established the standard for an entire genre of Dutch maritime painting" Keyes.
