These buildings include a three storied pagoda located high up on a hill deep inside the garden. This pagoda originally constructed in Kyoto in the mid-1400s was relocated to Sankei-en in 1914. A classical Japanese dance-drama Kabuki theatre is known for the stylization of its drama and for the elaborate make-up worn by some of its performers. <br /> Recto of leaves 25 - Scenes of Noh Theatre 2 photographs. Noh theatre is a traditional Japanese theatrical form and one of the oldest extant theatrical forms in the world. Wearing masks Noh performers are simply storytellers who use their visual appearances and their movements to suggest the essence of their tale rather than to enact it. <br /> Recto of 26th leaf - Hakata Ningyo Japanese dolls 2 photographs. The Hakata Ningyo are clay dolls manufactured in Hakata Northern Kyushu island. Their origin goes back to the beginning of the Edo period around 1615. <br /> Recto of 27th leaf - Bunraku puppets 2 photographs. Bunraku is the traditional puppet theatre of Japan. It started of as popular entertainment for the commoners during the Edo Period in Osaka and evolved into artistic theater during the late 17th century. Along with Noh and Kabuki it is recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Bunraku puppets are about one-half life size and each is operated by three performers: a principal operator and two assistants. Strings are not used but rather the puppeteers co-operate to maneuver the limbs eyelids eyeballs eyebrows and mouths of the puppets thereby producing life-like actions and facial expressions. The puppeteers are in full view of the audience but are dressed in black to symbolize that they are to be taken as "invisible". <br /> Recto of leaves 28 - Scenes of Noh Theatre 2 photographs. ‎28 ff.n.ch. dont 11 vierges, papier vélin fort crème ou bleu.Très bel album de croquis et peintures exécuté et annoté par François d'Orléans, prince de Joinville, lors d'un voyage en Hongrie entre 1850 et 1860 et provenant des collections particulières du comte de Paris.Contraint par la loi d'exil de 1848 et après les épisodes d'Alger, le prince cessa sa vie maritime d'officier et, tout comme sa famille, se déplaça beaucoup en Europe. Il semble avoir séjourné plusieurs semaines de suite dans différentes régions de la Hongrie dont il illustre les paysages et les hommes. Le contexte de revendication nationaliste de ce pays éclaire les choix du crayon d'une lumière politique particulière tout en nous permettant de situer ce voyage dans le temps.Dans ce recueil d'études, impressionniste à dessein, une première partie décline des croquis au crayon, sur les rectos et versos des feuillets, avec des études de personnages et costumes magyars traditionnels.On y notera 3 beaux feuillets anopistographes: "Hongrie 24 juillet", étude d'hommes debout en costumes traditionnels (f.4) et "Persjtari Karoly", homme assis (f.7), très finement rehaussés à la gouache et à l'encre ainsi que "Czenech", une très délicate étude, au crayon, d'une femme en costume traditionnel (f.11).La seconde partie révèle un intérêt pour le pays lui-même avec des paysages, des villages et des scènes agraires ou démonstratives, travaillées au crayon. Toutes sont annotées d'indications sur les couleurs, prises sur le vif, en vue de compléter ultérieurement ses dessins. Semblent ajoutés postérieurement un délicat portrait au crayon de son épouse, Françoise de Bragance, princesse du Brésil (f.22) ainsi qu'une étude à la mine de plomb (f. 23) représentant une allégorie de la mort d'une personne princière. Peut-on en déduire que le prince reprit, après sa participation à la guerre de Sécession, son carnet lors du décès de sa mère en 1866 ?Comme nous le confirme l'aisance de son trait et l'abondance de ses croquis, le plus populaire et le plus démocrate des fils de Louis-Philippe était un fin illustrateur dont le journal intime, stimulé par une vive curiosité, est avant tout iconographique. On rappellera ces "mémoires" originaux, Vieux souvenirs, paru en 1894 et illustrés de sa main.Exposition "Le prince de Joinville et la marine de son temps" au Musée de la Marine, Paris, nov. 1953-fév. 1954 (n° G159 à G164)‎
