Loin de reproduire les vues exotiques presque grotesques que réalisent les photographes occidentaux, Chambi montre aux siens des images d'eux-mêmes comme ils n'en avaient jamais vues auparavant. Ce maître de la lumière partagera tous les combats du Pérou, les illustrant admirablement, avec une technique et une finesse qu'on ne reconnaîtra, hélas, qu'après sa mort survenue en 1973. Il est aujourd'hui mondialement célébré comme étant l'un des photographes majeurs du XXe siècle.
