His journal contains of interesting anecdotes - including some about Blacks, Quakers, Indians, etc. Examples of this famous work were usually rebound, and are now rarely found in this original condition. Black pebbled leather-covered boards with brilliant gilt lettering upon front board. Fold-out map inside back board entitled "H.E.P.C. Map of Toronto-Buffalo & Detroit-Cleveland Districts Indicating Similarity Between Proposed and Existing Interurban Systems" measures 21.5" x 18.3" and is in excellent condition aside from a crease and two short openings to lower left periphery. Moderate external wear. Binding sound. 1" x 1" dull patch in lower left corner of front board where label removed. Contents clean and unmarked with light wear. Offers a penetrating view of the volatile debate involved in the early history of Southern Ontario's passenger rail service. The railway was abandoned in 1899 and the locomotives and rails taken to Extension. Today timber grows on the old grades over which millions of tons of Wellington coal had been hauled." - pages 3 and 5. Includes black and white reproductions of five archival photographs which show the first train to Wellington in 1880 the locomotive Columbia the last coal to be hoisted in the Nanaimo-Wellington district in November 1953 and more.
