Brown cloth covered boards with "Florida" on palms leaves in gold on front cover and title in gold on spine. Light rubbing on most cover edges with a couple of small spots with lost of color on back cover. Pages have occasional spots of foxing but basically pages are bright and clean. André Siegfried se compose de trois parties intitulées : 1) La crise ethnique et religieuse du peuple américain ; restera-t-il anglo-saxon et protestant ? 2) L'équilibre économique des Etats-Unis au lendemain de la guerre ; 3) Les attitudes politiques. La première partie est la plus longue et, croyons-nous, la plus importante dans l'esprit de l'auteur. M. Siegfried y montre admirablement l'influence primordiale de la religion dans la vie américaine. (...) Dans cette théorie, des atteintes à la liberté de penser, telles que les lois votées dans divers Etats contre l'enseignement des doctrines évolutionnistes, apparaissent comme une « résistance puritaine ». De même, la prohibition. De même, le Ku Klux Klan, qui est présenté comme l'expression extrême et significative du « nationalisme protestant ». Le système est logique et cohérent, peut-être un peu trop. (...) Il resterait beaucoup de choses à dire sur ce livre si substantiel et si vivant, auquel on ne peut guère reprocher que de ne pas être un peu plus gros..." (D.
