Leffingwell, William Bruce
Pussy Wants.a Corner in this Book Which Reviews the Delights of the World's Fair and Contains a Series of Articles Depicting the Pleasures of Field Sports Profusely Illustrated
Softcover. Very good. Full title:. 9.5 x 6.5 inches 96 pp in illustrated wrappers depicting a little girl in a rocking chair holding a doll with a cat beside her none of which has any relation to the book's content. Light soiling and chipping to wrappers previous owner's info crossed out along top margin of front cover contents clean and sound. William Bruce Leffingwell was the author of many books on hunting-related topics. In this work he made the odd at least to this cataloger choice to combine his hunting knowledge with commentary on the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition Chicago World's Fair. There are photographs of each of the many State buildings at the fair each accompanied by historical and statistical information about the state followed by details of its open seasons for game and some comments on its appeal to sportsmen. If a state had no building at the fair it still gets its due. No reference to the fair is made but a photo of the state's capitol or some other prominent building is included although Alaska gets just a Sitka street scene along with historical facts and hunting laws. Next comes a picture of the Canadian Building at the fair followed by the detailed game laws of each Province. After that we leave the fair behind and the last 30 pages are devoted to essays on shooting quail ruffed grouse prairie chickens ducks and wild geese; as well as the extensive Trap-Shooting Rules of the American Shooting Association Revised 1893. Scattered within the text are ads for various gunpowder manufacturers. We locate one physical copy of this work in OCLC at the Chicago History Museum. unknown
