An absolutely massive record of the second session of the California state legislature held in the first half of 1851. A tremendous amount of legislative activity is recorded reflecting the task of creating a civic apparatus for the newly-admitted state. Thankfully there is an extensive index. Included is the annual message from California's first governor Peter Burnett who resigned just a few days later. "Of great historical value in understanding the difficulties in the formation of the state" - Norris catalogue. Very good. A small collection of photographs and other material associated with Lake Gregory Dam and nearby Crestline California during the 1930s. Lake Gregory is a man-made lake in Crestline an unincorporated community in San Bernardino County. It was created in the late 1930s by Redlands citrus grower Arthur Gregory who bought and developed the land originally known as Houston Flat with the intention of creating a small resort community from the waters of Houston Creek that previously drained into the tributaries of the Mojave River. The nearly 100-foot-high dam was built to protect the lake which remains a popular recreation area for nearby residents and visitors. Recently seismic upgrade work was completed on the dam at a cost of $24.6 million. This collection includes seven images of Lake Gregory including three duplicates. Two are dated September 8 1937 and show the dam under construction. These photographs are accompanied by a Western Union telegram dated February 27 1932 and addressed to Frank Cronin who supervised the project for the Works Progress Administration WPA. The remaining nine photographs preserve images of Crestline and the surrounding San Bernardino Mountains. Two of the images are of the San Moritz Lodge including a shot dated May 13 1939 that shows the main building under construction. Another photograph features a group of individuals posing in front of the Moonlake Post Office which shared a building with the Valley of the Moon Photo Shop. At the time LakeGregory was constructed the surrounding area was known as Moonlake before changing its name to Switzerland and then Crestline. Some minor edgewear with tiny pin-holes to the corner of a few of the photographs and occasional minor soiling; otherwise very good. unknown books
