Bradley, Alice; [Miss Farmer's School of Cookery (Boston, Mass)]
Lessons in food values and economical menus. Arranged by Alice Bradley of Miss Farmer's School of Cookery Boston. Price 25 Cents
Boston Mass: Miss Farmer’s School of Cookery 1917. Stapled booklet 20 x 13 cm. 29 pages. Stated "Third printing May 21 1917"; originally published in April of that year and with a "Second Edition" early in the month of May. The lessons in this booklet cover "Food as an Energy Producer" and were “first arranged for lessons in Canteen Cooking from the Massachusetts Branch of the Special Aid Society for American Preparednessâ€. Alice Bradley had been the head of Miss Farmer's School of Cookery since 1915 when she rose to the position upon the death of the school's namesake. She ran the school through the mid-1940s publishing numerous books along the way. This was one of her earliest published works though I've been unable to establish priority of the first few as she was prolific in 1917 issuing The Candy Book a series of Demonstration Lectures and this book of Lessons. A few early and neat ink corrections to tables at rear; in publisher’s printed brown wrappers; fine. OCLC locates six copies of all printings; Cagle 99. Miss Farmer’s School of Cookery unknown
