This is a handsomely engraved early map of the critical 8 1/2 mile railroad in Boston the connects north and west bound trains. The map on the right shows Boston and Vicinity and shows the railroad connecting esp. to the Boston %Worcester and also the Boston& Providence. It is through the latter that the important connection to the rail network of then Western United States. It is interesting to note that the Skeleton map shows the 1852 arrival of the Michigan Central and Michigan southern's connection to Chicago. The Galena is shown as a straight line to the Mississippi River. It was not in service to Galena until 1854. There is an absence of the New York Central Rr which did not happen until 1853. William F.
