Canada: Royal Canadian Navy 1945. Good. Historical wartime gelatin silver photograph of the Royal Canadian Navy's River-Class frigate HMCS Waskesiu underway at sea. The photograph measures 10-1/4 x 13-3/8 inches wide and is mounted onto heavy card 11 x 13-7/8 inches wide with "ROYAL CANADIAN NAVAL PHOTOGRAPH" rubber stamped onto verso along with the negative number and handwritten in ink "R. Staudinger / V-37298 / A.B. / May 8 - 45 / VE Day." Image with some age related toning and light wear card with three pin holes across top some old tape residue verso and bumps to corners. The Waskesiu was the first of the new breed of Canadian-built River class frigates constructed and commissioned into the Royal Canadian Navy. She also became the first Canadian frigate to sink a German U-boat U-257 in Feb. 1944 and saw action during the Normandy invasion before being paid off into reserve in Jan. 1946.
