Chicago.: Chicago Duluth and Georgian Bay Transit Company. 1939. Illustrated booklet 9 x 7 ½ inches 23 pp. with vertical center fold possibly folded for mailing. Booklet features deck plans; itineraries for 1939; price list; map of routes; staged photos of revelers; etc. The booklet describes the Georgian Bay Line as having "the only ships on the Great Lakes devoted exclusively to pleasure cruising. No freight no automobiles carried.providing the most unrestricted space for passengers." The line also boasts "capable college-student waitresses bellboys and deck stewards” and advertises "seven-day cruises from $69.50." A map shows the routes of the lines' three vessels with two of the ships traveling between Chicago and Buffalo and the third traveling between Duluth and Buffalo. Great Lakes cruises fell out of fashion in the 1950s and unable to meet fire-safety regulations the line ceased operations in 1966. Booklet in very good clean condition with fold noted. . Cette photographie est un tirage original de l'époque pour Georges Specht, photographe de la deuxième expédition Citroën dite la Croisière Noire, qui se déroula en 1924-1925. Il provient directement des héritiers. C'est un tirage argentique en très bel état. Le numéro indiqué correspond au numéro d'ordre dans la prise des photos. Plus de 3800 photos furent prises lors de l'expédition (voir le fonds Haardt conservé au Musée du Quai Branly). N°447 - A Niamey - des cavaliers Djerma à la réception - 24 novembre 1924 Photographie : 80*136mm Carton : 250*200mm Titrée à l'encre : « Une étrange réminiscence des croisades sous les tropiques : Djermas en costumes de parade ». Ces cavaliers sont une étrange évocation, inattendue sous les tropiques, de notre moyen âge : « les traces des Croisades se retrouvent encore dans la région du Niger : à Niamey, à Dosso, les Djermas s'affublent, les jours de parade, d'oripeaux dont la forme rappelle les cottes de maille et le heaume des chevaliers de Saint Louis » (L'Illustration, n°4311). Cette photographie a été publiée dans L'Illustration du 17 octobre 1925, n°4311, page 414. Elle y est titrée « Les guerriers moyenâgeux Djermas de la région du Niger et du Tchad ». La photo est jointe à la photo n°2194, contrecollée sur le même carton. Photo suivante : N°2194 - Le feu à la brousse aux environs de Yalinga - 20 février 1925 Photographie : 80*102mm Carton : 250*200mm Titrée à l'encre : « Un feu de brousse aux environs de Yalinga (Oubangui-Chari) ». Cette photographie a été publiée dans L'Illustration du 17 octobre 1925, n°4311, page 413. Elle y est titrée « Une émouvante péripétie des chasses de la mission : le feu de brousse ».

N°1472 - Baignade de noirs Mandja-Ali à Vogpo - 15 janvier 1925 Photographie : 80*136mm Carton : 250*200mm Cette photo est titrée à l'encre : « Femme Banda se baignant dans la Yangana à Vogpo (Oubangui) ». Les Mandjas et les Bandas sont deux ethnies différentes. Il y a donc une erreur entre l'inventaire et la légende de la photo. Sur le même carton se trouve la photo (80*136mm) ci-dessous, titrée « Passage d'une rivière équatoriale par les auto-chenilles Citroën ». Nous n'avons pas su situer cette photo probablement prise en Centrafrique ou au Congo belge.

Cette photographie est un tirage original de l'époque pour Georges Specht, photographe de la deuxième expédition Citroën dite la Croisière Noire, qui se déroula en 1924-1925. Il provient directement des héritiers. C'est un tirage argentique en très bel état. Le numéro indiqué correspond au numéro d'ordre dans la prise des photos. N°141 : La Saoura à Beni Abbès - 30 octobre 1924 Photographie grand format : 205*293mm Carton : 335*415mm Partie deux jours plus tôt de Colomb-Béchar, l'expédition arrive à l'oasis de Béni Abbès (Algérie) qui fut la première étape après la première petite difficulté (Oued Guir). Cette oasis est la dernière zone de verdure avant le passage du désert de Tanezrouft. On aperçoit donc deux bédouins au premier plan et les dunes du Sahara à l'arrière.

N°1450 - Le fleuve Oubangui et les rochers de l'ancien Bangui - 14 janvier 1925 Photographie grand format : 209*291mm Carton : 335*415mm Derrière des herbes en premier plan, on voit le fleuve Oubangui, un des principaux affluents du fleuve Congo, trois pirogues avec au moins 6 personnes sur chacune. Dans le fonds, les rochers de l'ancien Bangui, sur lesquels se trouvait l'ancien poste militaire français. Bangui, aujourd'hui la capitale du pays, fut fondée en 1889 par les colons. Elle se développa autour de ce poste militaire.
