The subject of their conversation contains various philosophical and theological issues which arise during the fratricidal war between the Pandavas and the Kauravas. Numerous interpretations and commentaries have been written about the Bhagavad Gita. This text has also provided inspiration to many leaders notably Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi also known as Mahatma Gandhi. In The Bhagavad Gita author Mahatma Gandhi’s commentary about the Gita is held with the greatest value in the modern era. Through his sloka-by-sloka interpretation Gandhi examines the issues which he felt had a direct impact on the spiritual well being of laypeople. The book is inspired by the lectures given by Gandhi at his Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad between the months of February and November in 1926. During his time at the ashram Gandhi had devoted much of his time to studying the Gita and translating it into Gujarati. Gandhi claimed that his interpretation of The Bhagavad Gita was intended for regular individuals or in as he stated “one who has little or no literary equipment who has neither the time nor the desire to read the Gita in the original and yet who stands in need of its support”. Gandhi’s interpretation is not an opinion on meaning but rather a ‘gospel of selfless action’. It promotes the idea that everything done in truth is never lost. His text was written for the benefit of individuals across all faiths and beliefs. The text is written in a simple clear and lucid manner. Leipzig, Brockhaus, 1858. Die vorderen Innendeckel mit einem eingeklebten Tierbildmotiv. - Das orientalische Papageienbuch basiert auf einer indischen Märchensammlung des 12. Jahrhunderts. Anfang des 14. Jahrhunderts wurde es ins Persische übersetzt und bearbeitet. Von Persien und der Türkei gelang die Sammlung im 15. Jahrhundert nach Europa und wurde dort früh in verschiedene europäische Sprachen übersetzt. - In guter Gesamterhaltung.

Sarkowski 1719 C. - Vordere Innendeckel mit Exlibris. - Die Einbände fertigte der Leipziger Meisterbuchbinder Gerhard Prade (sein blindgeprägtes Buchbindersignet auf den hinteren Innendeckeln). - Bemerkenswertes Beispiel traditioneller deutsch-deutscher Verlagsbeziehungen zur Zeit des Kalten Krieges: im Westen gedruckt, im Osten gebunden. Ein paar Jahre später, nach dem Mauerbau 1961, war das nicht mehr möglich. - Sehr gut erhaltene Dünndruckausgabe der orientalischen Märchensammlung. - Eines von 275 Exemplaren der Vorzugsausgabe in Ganzpergament.

Orig. -Pergament mit reicher Rückenvergoldung und goldgeprägter Vignette auf dem Vorderdeckel; mit Kopfgoldschnitt, spanischen Kanten und Seidenmoirévorsätzen.
Leipzig, Insel-Verlag, 1909-1910. Sarkowski 1725 VA. - Die Einbände geringfügig fleckig. - Eines von 100 Exemplaren der Vorzugsausgabe auf Bütten und in Ganzpergament (Nr. "88"). - Im Jahr 1704 erschien erstmals auf Französisch die orientalische Geschichtensammlung "Tausend und eine Nacht" und wurde sofort zu einem riesigen Erfolg. In Anlehnung daran publizierte Francois Pétis de La Croix im Jahr 1710 ebenfalls auf Französisch eine persische Märchensammlung unter dem Titel "Tausend und ein Tag". Im deutschen Sprachraum war und ist diese zweite Geschichtensammlung bis heute weitgehend unbekannt. In Ermangelung einer älteren deutschsprachigen Ausgabe griff der Insel-Verlag für seine deutsche Ausgabe auf französische, italienische und englische Editionen zurück. - Ausgewählt und eingeleitet wurde die Ausgabe von Paul Ernst, die Übertragungen aus dem Französischen, Englischen und Italienischen besorgten Felix Paul Greve und Paul Hansmann. Der farbige Doppeltitel und der Einband wurden von Marcus Behmer entworfen. - Eine der gesuchtesten Ausgaben des Leipziger Insel-Verlages. - In guter Gesamterhaltung.
