Paris: British & Foreign Bible Society at the Imprimérie Royale 1827. First Edition of the complete Bible in Ottoman Turkish the chief language of European and Asiatic Turkey and the official language of the Turkish Empire. The translation was undertaken in the 17th century by Wojciech Bobowski a Polish convert to Islam known as Ali Bey chief translator to Sultan Muhammad IV at the instigation of Levin Warner then Dutch Ambassador at Constantinople. It is apparently based upon a French protestant version. The New Testament from his manuscript held by Leyden University was edited by Heinrich Friedrich Diez former Russian Ambassador at Constantinople and further revised and edited by French Oriental scholar Jean Daniel Kieffer 1767-1832 before being printed in Paris in 1819. In 1820 Kieffer became the first Agent of the British and Foreign Bible Society in France and in the same year began a thorough revision of Ali Bey's translation of the Old and New Testaments. The complete Bible without the Apocrypha was published in 1827 in an edition of 5000 copies together with a further 2000 copies of the New Testament on its own. Black ink on paper out-ruled in gold inside fine illustration signed in neat Ottoman Turkish script: Muzehhibesi Rikkat 1364 illustrated by Rikkat 1945. Rikkat Kunt 1903-1986 was an academic and illustration artist. H�fiz Osman 1642-1698 was a Dervish and Islamic calligrapher born in Istanbul. He was tutor to the sultans Ahmed II Mustafa II and Ahmed III and was esteemed by the sultan Mustafa II who held his inkwell as he wrote. H�fiz Osman is credited with establishing the hilye. A hilye is a calligraphic panel containing a hadith-based text describing the Prophet's physical appearance and attributes. H�fiz Osman incorporated such texts which had been popular for some time in a formal design that soon became standard for this art form. Hilyeler came to be used as wall decorations or surface adornments fulfilling much the same function as figurative paintings in other religious traditions. While containing a concrete and artistically appealing description of Muhammad's appearance they complied with the strictures against figurative depictions of the Prophet leaving his appearance to the viewer's imagination.H�fiz Osman is also credited with reinvigorating the tradition of Seyh Hamdullah in particular with re-introducing a number of scripts that had fallen into disuse. unknown

Paper mounted on card 13 x 8.3 cm 24 x 19 cm scribed by the Ottoman calligrapher Mehmed Sevki efendi and un-usually signed "Nammaqahu el Shawki ghufira thunoubuhu. Naskhi black script composing of a Hadith the prophet Muhammad P. b. u. h. saying about the war Jihad rules. Mehmed Sevki Effendi 1828-1887 was born in Kastamonu. He was brought to Istanbul at a very early age and learned Thuluth and Naskhi from his uncle Hulusi Effendi. He received his icazet at the age of fourteen. In spite of his teachers insistence he refused to continue his studies with any other teacher and confined his further studies to an examination of the calligraphic models prepared by Kazasker Mustafa Izzet Effendi. He taught Husnu Hat penmanship in the Ministry of War and in a number of schools. In Naskhi script he adopted the style of Hafiz Osman and Ismail Zuhdu while in Thuluth and Jeli he followed Mustafa Rakim. He left a number of very fine pieces most of them istifs. Celeprated important archive contains: A Official three maps of the Aqaba - Rafah boundary by the Ottoman state and Britain made in 1902 white on bleu paper. These maps were prepared by a special committee from the Ottoman government. The biggest map due to the early years of the Aqaba question the question which still under investigation as a critical boundary question between Egyptian Jewish English and Turkish researchers. Together with Aqaba Akabe - Akaba mes'elesi Aqaba question by Mirliwa general Rushdi Rustu Pasha who was sent to Akaba by the Ottoman state as the commander of the Ottoman troops during the crisis. In 1906 while the construction of the Hejaz railway was in progress the famous Akaba disbute occurred between Britain and the Ottomans over the question of the Ottoman - Egyptian boundary. It was known that Britain did not like the construction of the railway from the beginning but since it was a domestic matter she could not object. However when the Ottomans wanted to extend the railway branch to Akaba and Taba tow small ports on the Sinai peninsula Britain objected to it on the grounds that the place belonged to Egypt. The maps are: 1 dated 1902 and titled 207 x 168 cm in Arabic and English from the point of view of Britain and Egypt. with manuscript Ottoman military notes. 2 57 x 51 cm in Ottoman script with hand made linen. Topographic military places. 3 54 x 44 cm Ottoman script showing Sinai peninsula Vilayet of Hijaz Wilayat suriyya Sandjak al Qudus Egyptian Hajj road Aqaba and al Arish Boundaries from the viewpoint of the Ottoman Imperial commission and the Egyptian commission. The smaller tow maps seem to be related to Aqaba question in 1906. B Collection of more than 250 photographs contains unpublished photos in the both books by Shoucair: The history of Sudan and The history of Sinai and Arabs with a resume of the history of Egypt Syria Mesopotamia and Arabia which published in 1916 in Cairo. Several Cabinet photos of important British and Egyptian officials some signed or dedicated to Shoucair during the British mandate like Clayton Lee Stack Sultan Hussein Kamil Hussein Rushdi and others. D Many correspondence documents contains his correspondences with Owen regarding Owen's translation of Shoucair's book about Sinai and the Arabs. Together with Owen's English translation drafts by typewriter seems to be un recorded and the correspondence with the Sherif of Mecca Sherif Ali in 1915 about his ruling in the Wilaya of Hejaz. After short time he joined the intelligence office of the Egyptian military. He worked in the historical section of the ministry of war in then he became the director of the section. He went to Sinai under the directory of the British bureau in the Egyptian army to make settlement with the Ottoman Army regarding the late movements in Sinai and Palestine in 1906 where he spent a time to collect the matter of the comprehensive subject. He took important role in the intelligence bureau of war under the British movements in the first world war. paperback

The book is a criticism against the Turkish regime and its decision to translate the Kuran and accept the translation as a religious text instead the Arabic one. Original printer wraps and modern fine binding. Mustafa Sabri Efendi one of the last Ottoman Sheikh ul Islams chief jurisconsult of the State and head of the Ottoman religious establishment. Sabri was a leading scholar and politically active figure of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in the Ottoman State and was appointed Sheikh ul Islam four times in the final years of the State. Due to his resistance to the Committee of Union and Progress Ittihad ve Terakki and Mustafa Kemal he lived half of his life in exile in various countries and died in Egypt. The merit of Sabri's thought lies in its full reflection of influential theological and philosophical currents in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and in its recognition of the crucial importance of ontological and epistemological problems for contemporary Islam. Sabri emphasized that the epistemic structure of Islamic thought had collapsed meaning that the first task of the Muslim psyche would have to consist in learning how to conceptualize and to formulate systematically its own positions on what "being" is ontology and what "knowledge" is epistemology in terms intelligible to others.
