TULLIA RITTI.
Phrygia Hierapolis'i (Pamukkale) eski yazitlar rehberi.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (21 x 15 cm). 211 p. In Turkish. Color ills. The epigraphic guide to Hierapolis of Phrygia (Pamukkale) aims to present visitors to the site and the museum with some of the most interesting Greek inscriptions that they will encounter, helping to both read and understand them. The excavations conducted by the Italian Archaeological Mission have trebled the number of documents that were known at the end of the nineteenth century, now totalling over 1000. Starting in Hellenistic times, the inscriptions from Hierapolis shed light on all aspects of urban life, and provide information on the composition of the population, on institutions and government, on municipal and provincial roles, as well as on religion, productive sectors and the organisation of gilds, Greek-type contests and amphitheatre games, the activity of public benefactors, funerary rites, the Jewish community and the expressions of Christianity. The majority of the most significant documents have been published, and work is now directed towards producing a scientific corpus of all epigraphic material.

SÜKRÜ TÜL.
Sirince. Bir zamanlar Çirkince.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (21 x 15 cm). 84 p. In Turkish. Color and b/w ills. "Each villager was the lord of his own piece of land. Everybody had a two-storied house in the village. In addition, a summer home surrounded with walnut, almond, apple, pear and cherry trees and vegetable gardens. Andnobody neglected to decorate their gardens with flowers. And the streams springing on ali sides never stopped flowing. When the wheat and barley were ripe our fields were like gold gilt seas. You would never find elsewhere olive trees such as ours, full of olives so much that the branches touched the ground, round and black olives, glimmering olive trees. Olive oil was a slow but reliable source of income. But figs. Figs filled the belt of the villagers with gold! Our figs were famous not only in Aydin province but also in the East, Europe and America. Such a thin skin almost non-existing, honeyed with the sun of Anatolia." Dido Sotiriou.

PONTUS HELLSTRÖM.
Labraunda. Karya Zeus Labraundos kutsal alani gezi rehberi.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (21 x 15 cm). In Turkish. Color ills. Labraunda is an ancient site in south-western Turkey, excavated by Swedish archaeologists. This solitary place was a pilgrim sanctuary and the sacred centre for the ancient Karians; a paved road for sacred processions led there from Milas. The shrine at Labraunda was the most important one in this part of Karia. This guide to the Swedish excavations contains both a description of the buildings that were erected in honour of the god Zeus Labraundos and an account of how the site was rediscovered in the 19th century. Labraunda is worth a visit not only because of the well-preserved remains of the unique banqueting hall Andron A and the other ruins, but also for the beautiful location and the splendid panorama view it offers. It is also unusual to find an ancient sanctuary, which, after its heyday, remained almost unchanged. It is therefore still possible to imagine what the sanctuary looked like in the 4th century BC, at the time when Karia was ruled by Maussollos and Idrieus.

New New English Original bdg. with original dust wrapper. 4to. (30 x 22 cm). 215 p. B/w and color ills. In Turkish. A heavy volume. [=La Turquie a l'exposition universelle de 1867.]. As early as the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London, replicas of parts of well-known buildings (such as the Alhambra) were displayed inside the main structure, the Crystal Palace; separate pavilions for different nations outside the main exhibition hall were first built for the Paris Universal Exposition of 1867. By gathering architectural pieces from all over the world, the fair grounds introduced the notion of an imaginary journey and created a new type of tourism, en place. Architectural displays became indispensable at every fair, setting the precedent for the "period room" and the "outdoor architectural museum.".

JÜRGEN SEEHER.
Gods carved in stone. The Hittite rock sanctuary of Yazilikaya.
New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (27 x 20 cm). In English. Color ills. and photos. 208 p.: with 152 colour and 23 b/w photographs, 60 drawings and 8 plan diagrams Yazilikaya: Hittite rock sanctuary. The rock sanctuary of Yazilikaya is one of the most important ritual sites of the Late Bronze Age in Turkey. Its walls are decorated with unique rock-cut reliefs: over ninety male and female deities, animals and mythical beings - more than half of all known Hittite reliefs. The sanctuary once lay on the outskirts of Hattusa, capital of the Hittite Empire, in central Anatolia. The German Archaeological Institute has been excavating here since 1931 and the rock sanctuary of Yazilikaya has been thoroughly investigated in the process. While scientific literature is plentiful, what is lacking is a "complete Yazilikaya": a comprehensively illustrated publication in English intended both for experts and the broader reading public. This book is intended to fill that gap. It offers the reader a virtual tour of the sanctuary and can also serve as a guidebook for visitors to the site. At the same time it summarizes the results of earlier excavations as well as the latest research. Lavishly illustrated with spectacular new photographs of the rock massif, it contains a detailed description of the rock chambers with the reliefs and the accompanying temple buildings. This section is followed by chapters reconstructing the history of the sanctuary and discussing its still mysterious function. Other chapters focus on the Hittites and their capital city, the discovery of the site and its research history and much more besides - with the aim of bringing the ancient monument vividly to life before the reader's eyes.

Wall painting in Ephesos. From the Hellenistic to the Byzantine period.
New English Original bdg. HC. 224 p. In English. Color ills. Witnesses to a bygone culture ancient wall paintings provide direct access to the ancient way of life, and become a means of communication between their commissioner and their audience. In Ephesos for a long time wall painting was treated as a second-class citizen, as a secondary product of the excavated monuments. The remains of wall paintings at Ephesos, however, extend far beyond Terrace Houses which can be easily visited today. With this book the remnants of wall paintings in Ephesos are for the first time studied and presented in detail, claiming a new chronology and dating. From the Terrace Houses to the Grotto of St. Paul the work covers a long time span from the Hellenistic period through medieval Byzantine period, enriched with numerous colour figures.

Hattusa kerpiç kent suru. Bir rekonstruksiyon çalismasi. Edited by: Sendogan Yazici. Translation: Isil Isiklikaya.
New English Paperback. Pbo. In Turkish. Color ills. 232 p. Situated in Central Anatolia, Hattusa remained the capital city of the Hittites from 1650/1600 to around 1200 BC. Here, as recently as 2003 to 2005, the German Archaeological Institute has rebuilt one stretch of the mudbrick city wall. The funding for the endeavor ?the first of its kind worldwide? has been generously provided by JT International. The scope of this project in experimental archaeology has been to recreate a part of the wall using the same materials the Hittites had at hand when they built their original walls so long ago. Each step necessary for the construction was fully documented so as to enable us to assess not only the amount of building materials required but also the manpower and time the Hittites must have invested in the various tasks of construction. This volume presents the results gleaned from this documentation. From the production of the first mudbrick to the dedication of the finished structure, each and every undertaking has been described in detail and is presented here accompanied by 573 illustrations.

Throughout History, trading zones have shaped the development of urban lanscapes. Anatolia was the craddle of trade and for thousands of years it was the scene of the development of commerce, industry and innovation. The Grand Bazaar of Istanbul is a formidable center of trade dating back 500 years, and probably the most complex and complete structure inherited from the Ottoman Empire.
