Very Good condition. 5" wide by 7" tall. Bound in the original brown cloth stamped in shiny copper on the spine. Only slight wear to spine ends. Front hinge starting to crack but still a solid copy that is holding tight. This is an uncommon edition of a highly esteemed and often reprinted work. It was first published in 1774 two years after Woolman's death in England. John Woolman 1720-1772 was born in New Jersey of Quaker parents. He became a noted abolitionist and leader of the Society of Friends. His anti-slavery efforts were influential in the decision by the Quakers to abolish slavery. William Ellery Channing pronounced Woolman's Journal beyond comparison the sweetest and purest autobiography in the language.
