In My Father's Bakery : A Bronx Memoir
New York: Red Rock Press 2003. Bright shiny clean square tight and unmarked. Dust Jacket is not price clipped 22.00. No chips. No tears. No creases. No remainder marks. Sharp corners. Bound in the original dark blue boards lettered in gold on the spine. From the Dust Jacket: "This remembrance of a neighborhood restores to life -- in all its grit humor and magic -- a vibrant New York of prizefights in the Bronx Coliseum baseball in the original Yankee Stadium and dancing to the big-band sounds booming from the radio. Yet bread the staff of life is at the heart of this work; all vignettes radiate from the bakery. The author focuses his storytelling on individuals: among them the grocer the baker and the bookmaker. We also meet. the local Communist leader an irrepressible Hispanic porter a secretive Russian gardener a lonely wife gypsy tinsmiths and a magician -- who is not the only closely observed character who pulls surprises out of his hat. The author is too keen a chronicler to serve up mere nostalgia along with the bakery's recipe for challah and butter cookies the ones with the maraschino cherry in the middle that mothers mailed to their boys in the service. Mr. Korman's stories are delivered fresh-baked and warm with irony enough to assure a memorable bite.". INSCRIBED / SIGNED by the AUTHOR. First Edition. Hard Cover. Fine condition./Fine dust jacket. Illus. by Echevarria Abe jacket art. 8vo. 207pp. Red Rock Press Hardcover

Krimmel Edmund G.; Tilden Marmaduke Jr.; Purves Edmund; Graham John Jr.; Pepper George W. Jr.; Day Kenneth; Register
Model Housing; Edmund G. Krimmel M. Tilden Jr. Edmund Purves John Graham Jr. Geo. W. Pepper Jr. Kenneth Day H. B. Register
Philadelphia: s.n. 1932. Pamphlet. Very Good. 4 p.; 26 cm. No date of publication but refers to the "new Pennsylvania Suburban Station" which opened in 1930 and to an exhibition possibly the Model Housing Exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in March 1932. This pamphlet on model housing for "low wage earners" was produced by seven prominent architects most with connections to Philadelphia. Edmund G. Krimmel c.1895-1953 specialized in public housing projects and urban redevelopment in the Philadelphia area. He worked with H. Bartol Register 1886-1956 on the Highland Homes Development in Wayne Pa. during World War Two. Register was part of the architectural firm Tilden Register & Pepper with Marmaduke Tilden Jr. 1883-1957 and George W. Pepper Jr. 1895-1949 from 1926 to 1936. John Graham Jr. 1888-1957 was a project planner for new public housing for the U. S. Housing Authority. Kenneth Day 1901-1958 was a housing expert and partnered with Edmund Purves 1897-1964 for a few years. In this pamphlet they recommend clearing the "blighted areas" between Suburban Station and the Schuylkill River and along the Parkway and then locating "high-speed traffic lanes" below ground and new model housing above. One of many ambitious housing proposals that failed to find enough support in the 1930s in the United States. Scarce. In Very Good Condition: lightly creased; exterior pages 1 and 4 lightly soiled; otherwise clean and solid.

s.n. unknown
