"Tulameen River Princeton B.C." and "Princeton B.C." One card w. light soil verso else all cards fine and unmarked. Uncommon early images of Princeton B.C. with one bird's-eye view having been taken in Winter with snow on the surrounding hills and the other bird's-eye view being taken in Summer showing low water on the Tulameen River the Merritt-Princeton Highway bridge over the Tulemeen River many vehicles of the day and various business signage clearly visible along the main street. A little dog-earing. Contains an Introduction and nine chapters. One of Rev. Griggs' many self-help volumes and his third book with "According to Law" in the title. This book is probably an expanded version of an identically titled self-help book published in 1916 which contained 122p. Griggs also published in 1916 a even shorter work of 103p. which was titled "According to Law." A comparison with "According to Law" in stock when this item was catalogued showed that almost all of the material in the earlier work appears in this differently-titled 1917 edition as well as much that was not found in the earlier work. <br/><br/> National Public Welfare League paperback books

Covers rather shabby & worn -- decorative white ruled-lines on front cover about half gone; ends of backstrip and other extremities worn. Hinges quite weak. Former owner's name stamp on endpapers. No Jacket. In this Third and final edition Griggs added an essay on "The Leopard Spots" an infamously racist novel by Thomas Dixon. Nashville: Orion 1911. Fourth version. Hardcover. Very Good. 193p. 19cm. Attractive modern quarterbinding with marbled boards. Text has some wear and a few brown spots. No Jacket. Rev. Griggs was the author of a number of books and is best known for the five novels he wrote and self-published between 1899 and 1908. This is a non-fiction item about racial issues which was apparently first published in 1909 in 2 versions of 116 and 134 pages a third version in 1910 of 145 pages and 2 further versions in 1911 of 193 and 259 pages. This makes this a copy the 4th version or edition. We owe this information to John Gruesser a professor of English at Kean University who inquired about the contents of another copy and was kind enough not to mention our previous misidentification of the edition. The 5th version added a final section with a separate title-page "Beyond the End" and table of contents but does not appear to have revised any of the material in the first 193 pages. <br/><br/> Orion hardcover books

A Good copy with the front panel only of the dust jacket. 8vo. 219 pp. Bound in the publisher's green cloth decorated with white floral images on the front board. Title lettering on the front board now faded. Boards worn especially the tips and spine ends. Previous owner's gift inscription. The dust jacket is a worn fragment consisting of the front panel and parts of the spine. The dj is made from heavy grey stock with green decoration and red title; now held in place with a mylar sleeve. Sutton Elbert Griggs June 19 1872 – January 2 1933 was an American author Baptist minister academic administrator educator publisher and social activist. <br /> Griggs was African-American and known for African American literature and western fiction and wrote on social justice racial segregation and integration. In 1901 Griggs founded the Orion Publishing Company to sell books to the African American market. <br /> <br /> This is the author's second novel.
