Once the causes were removed the body tended to heal itself. Trall maintained that drugs harmed the body; they did not act upon the body but the body acted upon the drugs. Bound in original publisher's printed brown wrappers minor damage to spine clean and fresh and excellent and very genuine copy. With stamps likely a bookseller's to head of cover and title page 'Rodi-Ferrario'. Very rare first and only edition of this travel guide to Europe written as the title suggests for young readers in a pocket 12mo format. The guide moves from tours of Italy and Switzerland all the way to Poland Lithuania and Turkey as well as Great Britain providing 8 engraved plates of national costumes along the way. The charming illustrations depict: a young woman of 'Batz' Bath; a woman of Civita-Vechia Romagna; a citizen of Seville; a young woman of Gaeta Two Sicilies; a boatman from Le Havre a woman of Oberhash Switzerland; the Vizier of Constantinople; and finally a female Athenian. The commentary passes from the historical to contemporary details of travel between major destinations and occasional remarks of art-historical interest. Florence is noted to contain in the same breath the sepulcres of Galileo Aretino Machiavelli and Alfieri the latter having been sculpted by Canova p 72. England Scotland and Ireland are noted very much in passing: although the empire stretches 'to the Ganges' the islands themselves are accorded little interest. The guide does mention "the reknown of the univeristy of Oxford the most learned in England" with no mention however of its more easterly counterpart. Prima edizione di questa celebre guida di Lucca e dei paesi limitrofi quali Viareggio, Camajore, Massaciuccoli, Villa Torrigiani a Camigliano. Nell'opera vengono descritte ville a Saltocchio, S. Pancrazio, Marlia, Segromigno. Collodi. Fra i capitoli: "Delle vicende politiche di Lucca"; "Descrizione geografica del Ducato, suo clima e sua popolazione"; "Descrizione topografica della Città, sue primarie pubbliche istruzioni e manifatture"; "Delle monete, pesi, e misure lucchesi, ed oggetti di belle arti più rimarcabili". br. Questo secondo volume dedicato ai verbi greci seleziona e tratta i verbi che ricorrono più frequentemente nei testi canonici "scolastici". Ne propone uno studio secondo l'etimologia, raggruppandoli per radici, rendendo evidenti i legami tra le parole imparentate. Infine consente lo studio delle costruzioni, perché segnala regolarmente gli argomenti (o le valenze) dei verbi. In appendice al testo, un indice analitico per una rapida consultazione dei verbi cercati.

ill., br. La principale caratteristica di questo portolano cartografico sono le 215 tavole che illustrano in dettaglio tutti i porti, approdi e ancoraggi presenti nell'area di navigazione. L'introduzione comprende una tavola con distanze e rotte principali, un elenco della cartografia tradizionale e digitale e informazioni meteorologiche generali. L'area è suddivisa in sette macrozone, per ognuna delle quali vi sono due guide rapide di consultazione: la prima elenca i principali porti e marina con i relativi servizi; la seconda riporta invece le baie con le relative caratteristiche di ancoraggio (protezione, natura del fondo, profondità, servizi a terra, ecc.). Grande cura è stata prestata nella descrizione di approdi e marina, particolarmente numerosi nella Laguna Veneta e lungo il litorale fino all'Adriatico centrale, includendo tutte le norme che regolamentano la navigazione in quest'area. I 510 piani dei porti e 96 per baie e ancoraggi sono ampi e di facile consultazione grazie a una ricca gamma di pittogrammi. Brevi testi completano le informazioni di pilotaggio. In tutti i piani di dettaglio è presente un'icona dei venti di traversia.

I numerosi piani di porti e baie sono corredati da una ricca gamma di pittogrammi facilitano l'immediata consultazione.
