Within the text there are 11 maps 16 plates and 21 illustrations by Geoffrey C. Ingleton. Dark red boards with gilt illustration on front panel and gilt writing on the spine. Illustrated dustwrapper again by Geoffrey C. Ingleton a scene of ships at anchor with light blue background with darker blue decorations black & blue writing on front panel and spine. ". We tended to overlook the claims of real colonist the free settler and the ticket-of-leave man who grading hardships that we can inadequately visualise pushed out into the unknown.". The Milson family were such people and this is the tale as told through letters reminiscences and other documents. The corners slightly rubbed and bumped as are the head and heel of spine. On half title page there is a brown staining 3" x 8" closest to the spine. The dustwrapper is heavily rubbed and faded and all corners have small pieces missing. The head of the spine is chipped and again a small piece is missing and bottom spine is chipped with resulting loss of .25" from the edge. With an article on the back page column 3 entitled "Gold In Australia" measuring 13 column inches which states "The discovery of the fact by Mr. Hargraves that the country from the Mountain Ranges to an indefinite extent in the interior is an immense gold field" which has ignited "a universal rush to the diggings". The article goes on to describe the rapid rise in the cost of provisions; a description of miners returning to town with gold nuggets; the government geologist's visit to the site; and the need to appoint a "Commissioner over the gold regions. in which Mr. Hargraves being the discoverer. points him out as the most suitable and worthy person for the appointment." An article picked up by the Edinburgh Courant from the Sydney Morning Herald of May 20 which took it from The Bathurst Free Press of May 17th. Small chips at top edges a little browned. It is in fine condition glazed within the original simple frame with the label of Richardson's Art Gallery 121 Liverpool St Hobart on the backing paper. Also mounted there is a gift label 'Presented to Mr J.M. Morris by Hobart Branch Staff Union Bank . 15th October 1934' signed by ten members of the staff with some silverfish damage to the signed portion of the label
