‎Gutes Exemplar; Einband etwas berieben; Arbeitsexemplar des libertären Dokumentaristen Hansdieter Heilmann, mit Beilagen. - Sehr viele Fotografien. - Dieses Buch will keine Geschichte der Juden im Elsaß sein, sondern eine VERGEGENWÄRTIGUNG. Als ich entdeckte, daß es in Sandweier, einem kleinen Ort vor Baden-Baden, in der Nazi-Zeit ein Außenlager des KZs Natzweiler-Struthof (in den Vogesen) gegeben hat, ging ich auf Spurensuche. Vor dem Ort, an der Straße nach Iffezheim (auch dort gab es ein Natzweiler-Außenlager), ganz in der Nähe der Autobahn, fand ich noch mutmaßliche Überreste. Eine Gedenktafel dort aufzustellen, vielleicht sogar eine Lichtung zu schlagen, schiene mir sinnvoll - damit die Jugendlichen von heute Fragen stellen können. - ?Natzweiler" war dann das Stichwort, das mich auf mein Thema brachte: JUDEN IM ELSASS. Wie erging es ihnen während der Nazi-Zeit? Ich wollte Näheres wissen und fuhr zu diesem Zweck über Jahre hinweg immer wieder sporadisch ins Elsaß. Ich sprach mit Juden und Jüdinnen und photographierte nebenbei, weil mir Vieles - die alten Synagogen vor allem und die jüdischen Friedhöfe vor den Dörfern - im Zerfall begegnete. JUDEN IM ELSASS also eine Vergegenwärtigung und auch der Versuch, dem (elsässischen) Judentum etwas näher zu kommen. Viele haben mir dabei geholfen: Juden und Nicht-Juden. Ihnen allen bin ich Dank schuldig. ... (Vorwort) // ... es (ist) charakteristisch für die elsässischen Juden, daß sie sich sehr stark mit Israel identifizieren. Und da in Frankreich in gewissem Maße der Antizionismus salonfähig geworden ist, ist auch der Antisemitismus wieder salonfähig. Solange die Elsässer nicht den Mut haben, und ich spreche keineswegs von den Elsässern insgesamt, sich mit dieser Vergangenheit zu konfrontieren und sie zu bewältigen, wird das Verhältnis zwischen Juden und Christen überschattet bleiben. Es geht nicht um eine Hexenjagd, sondern darum, daß sich die Geschichte nicht mehr wiederholt." Denn, fügt Freddy Raphael hinzu: "Im Krieg fand eine Traumatisierung der elsässischen Juden statt. Die elsässischen Juden hatten sich als Franzosen ganz sicher gefühlt. Manche Christen hatten ihr Leben gefährdet, um Juden zu helfen; andere aber hatten jüdische Häuser geplündert. Die Illusion, die man vor dem Krieg in jüdischen Kreisen hatte, daß einem im Elsaß nie etwas wird passieren können, ist damals verschüttet worden. Die Juden wissen ganz genau, daß der Nachbar heute auch sein Haus anstecken kann. Das Vertrauen ist nicht mehr da." Francis Rosenstiel, Mitglied im Vorstand der jüdischen Gemeinde Straßburgs, ist dagegen nicht so skeptisch. Er meint: "Das Vertrauen ist wieder da. Auf jeden Fall. Es gibt heute nicht mehr und nicht weniger Antisemitismus als vor dem Krieg. Aber es gibt eine Trennung zwischen den Leuten, die-weggegangen sind und denjenigen, die hier geblieben sind. ?
