Some light browning at edges with tears and losses on left edge still good. Text in Chinese. Sheet measures 26.5 x 38.4cm. Includes a map of Autumn Harvest Uprising and also shows the routes of the military advancing towards Jinggangshan between September and October 1927. On reverse left section a map shows the route along which Chairman Mao led the Fourth Army of the Chinese Red Army marching towards south of Anhui and Jiangxi Provinces in 1929. On reverse right section a map titled "The Long March of The Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army October 1934-October 1935". Quotations of Chairman Mao about the Long March insert on corners of the map. <br> <br>Issue no. 6 of a series of maps with text issued by the Red Guards organisations in the form of Cultural Revolution tabloid-sized newspaper. Aintigua Manuscript 'Duplicate' letter signed by Byam and Taylor to the widow of Brigadier General Crofton Vandeleur Commander of HM Troops on the island of Antigua expressing 'Respect and Gratitude'.
Antigua West Indies. 20 April 1807. 2pp. 4to. Bifolium. In good condition on aged paper with 2 cm closed tear. Addressed to 'Mrs Crofton Vandeleur' and dated 'Antigua April 20th 1807.' Headed 'Duplicate' and in a neat secretarial hand but with the genuine signatures of 'Edward Byam President of the Council' and 'Jno. Taylor Speaker of the Assembly'. The document begins: 'In Compliance with the Resolutions of the Council and Assembly of this Island We have the Honour to transmit to You the inclosed Extract from the Journals of the two Houses on the 26th of last Month expressive of the Respect and Gratitude which they entertain of the Zeal and Attention of the late Brigadier General Vandeleur to the Defence of this Colony in Times of imminent Danger .'. At a General Assembly of the State of Connecticut holden at Hartford on the second Thursday of May 1808. The Following Gentlemen are chosen by the Freemen of this State to stand in Nomination for Election in October next as Representatives in the eleventh Congress of the United-States viz
Hartford: Hudson and Goodwin 1808. Letterpress broadside measuring 13 x 7 ¾ inches. Some slight toning near fine overall. Fine. A broadside announcing the candidates for the United States House of Representatives a list which includes Noah Webster. Webster received 212 votes in the preliminary election in May enough to get him a spot on the ballot but lost in the general election in a generally difficult time for Federalist politicians. Webster experienced a religious conversion during this period after being a not particularly devout Congregationalist earlier in his life and embraced the church completely perhaps due to the death of his infant son in 1806. Webster would run again for U.S. Representative in 1810 1812 and 1816 losing each time and eventually abandoned politics his last office held being in the Connecticut House of Representatives ending in 1807 shortly before his first campaign for national office. We find no record of this broadside in OCLC or other ephemera relating to Webster’s political career in Connecticut in the trade. The collected acts from this session were published in octavo format but we find no other record of this broadside printing. Hudson and Goodwin unknown

Quarto 4 pp. woodblock ornament and drop title; fine and uncut preserved in modern marbled wrappers. <p><p>The National Assembly decree calling for the publication of all accounts and charts of the La Pérouse expedition. In this second of two La Pérouse decrees of 1791 the government commits to the publication of the maps and narrative for the official account of the voyage. The publication would be six years in the making first appearing in 1797 as Voyage de la Pérouse autour du Monde and would come to be regarded as one of the greatest narratives of maritime exploration ever published. This decree too is printed at the start of the official voyage account. The text of the decree makes special reference to La Pérouse's Australian landing and copious correspondence relayed to France throughout the voyage 'envoyées par M. la Peyrouse de la partie de son voyage jusqu'à Botanibay.'; famously La Pérouse's last report was forwarded by Governor Phillip from Port Jackson.</p> <p>Three different imprints have been recorded for publication of this decree-- Paris and Grenoble versions have been described as well as the present issue from Tours.</p> <p>The Paris issue is held by two Australian libraries State Library of New South Wales and the National Library and it is recorded by several bibliographers Allen's Check List p. 10; McLaren 134; Ferguson 107 and also appears in the exhibition catalogue Centenaire de la mort de Lapérouse Paris 1888; number 48. However the Tours and Grenoble imprints are both scarcer and have escaped notice by the bibliographers mentioned. La découverture d'une médaille ancienne (vers 1580) dans un jardin près de Grenoble et l'ensemble des symboles qu'elle comportait, renvoyaient prophétiquement, en cette année d'Assemblée des Notables (1788), à la nécessité d'une étroite union entre Clergé, Noblesse et Tiers état. Sur la médaille, les trois ordres (Clergé - Noblesse - Plèbe / Concorde) sont représentés autour d'une colonne qui, s'ils venaient à se séparer serait renversée. Sur la colonne repose un Dauphin couronné, sous la devise "Hominum Amator": l'Ami des Hommes. Les deux faces de la médaille sont reproduites page 7. Parue sans nom d'auteur, la brochure est sans doute due à Letourneau qui avait consacré à cette médaille un article dans les "Affiches du Dauphiné" du 21 nov. 1788, p. 2. (Conlon, 'Siècle des Lumières', 88:3455 qui identifie l'auteur. 'Répertoire des sources de la numismatique française', 1889, II, n°4025. Maignien, 'Bibliographie du Dauphiné pendant la Rév. Française', n°281). Très rare. Manque à la BnF qui ne possède qu'un fac-similé. Bon exemplaire, non rogné.

1805. Original Wrappers. Very Good binding. 12mo. 19 1 blank pp. First edition. As issued stitched in plain wrapper; a few leaves unopened. Light wear to the covers including some silverfishing to the top inner margin of the rear wrapper and diminishing through the next several leaves; light soiling but largely a remarkably copy. Deaccessioned as a library duplicate the only indication being a mid-20th century gift stamp deep in the inner margin of p. 3; contents clean. <br /> <br /> An address criticizing incumbent Pennsylvania governor Thomas McKean and recommending Simon Snyder as governor in the 1805 election. While Snyder lost to McKean in a contentious 1805 contest he would ultimately win in 1808 and serve three terms. The language early in the address is salient: "Principles and not men were the foundations on which American independence was established . Principles and not men have been the objects of contest ever since between the several parties which have arisen under our government; but we are now brought to a point when it is to be determined by the public suffrage whether men setting at defiance the wishes of the people and the principles of representative government shall govern Pennsylvania" p. 3. Report of the Committee of Internal Improvement On the Bill to Incorporate the Charlotte and Camden Rail Road Company
Raleigh: W. R. Gales Printer to the Legislature 1846. First Edition. Wraps. Fair. Disbound wraps. 20 pages. Title on page 1. No stitching remains of the report. All pages are loose. A few old ink marks. Old ink name "John Baxter" top of the title page. <br /> <br /> A brief search on the internet provided no information on the Charlotte and Camden Railroad. However most likely the name of "Camden" was replaced with "South Carolina" to become the Charlotte South Carolina Railroad Company. Construction began on the rail route from Charlotte to Columbia South Carolina in 1847 the year after this report. The Charlotte South Carolina Railroad began in 1852 and existed until 1869 when it was absorbed by Charlotte Columbia and Augusta Railroad. The line ran from Charlotte North Carolina to Columbia South Carolina and was the first carrier to serve Mecklenburg County North Carolina. The image provides a rare wide-angle view of the historic chamber with all members present at their desks. This 1947 assembly is a fascinating snapshot of Manitoba's unique "Coalition" era. The government led by Premier Stuart S. Garson K.C. pictured in the 3rd row was a fusion of Liberal-Progressives and Progressive Conservatives a "non-partisan" administration that had its origins in the war years. <br /> <br />The photograph is a roster of Manitoba's post-war political establishment. In addition to Premier Garson who would leave in 1948 to join the federal cabinet the roster includes his successor Hon. Douglas L. Campbell 3rd Row who would go on to be Premier for a decade. Also present are numerous other cabinet ministers and future luminaries including: Hon. J. S. McDiarmid 3rd Row who would be appointed Lieutenant-Governor of Manitoba in 1953; Lt.-Col. Gordon Churchill 1st Row a future federal MP and prominent cabinet minister in the Diefenbaker government; Gunnar S. Thorvaldson K.C. 2nd Row a future Senator. <br /> <br />Most remarkably this image captures the legislature's sole dissenter and one of its most notable figures: William "Bill" A. Kardash 2nd Row. As the only member of the Labor-Progressive Party Communist in the assembly Kardash was a conspicuous and often isolated voice in the coalition-dominated house. His presence seated amongst the very establishment he ideologically opposed is a powerful visual representation of the era's complex political landscape at the dawn of the Cold War. <br /> <br />The photograph itself is a fine example of the large-format group portraiture perfected by the Gauvin Gentzel Studio one of Winnipeg's leading photographic firms for decades known for their clarity and high-quality compositions. The silver gelatin print retains excellent clarity sharp detail and strong contrast. The mat is clean and bright with only very light toning to the edges and minor bumping to the corners. Capitale raccolta degli atti e dei documenti delle Assemblee legislative costituite nel Regno sabaudo nell'arco di tre secoli, cinque anni dopo sarà stampata la seconda parte dell'opera che riguarderà gli anni dal 1561 al 1766. Suddivise per regioni e per epoche storiche, si trovano in questa colossale opera i rescritti e le decisioni che costituirono l'impianto legislativo della vita comune nel Regno sabaudo. Un esame che dà immediato risalto alle assonanze e dissonanze fra le varie comunità, i tentativi di definire, dopo la legislazione longobarda, un proprio Corpus giuridico su cui fondare il vivere comunitario. Una miniera immensa di notizie e di fatti che creano essi stessi la Storia, con la possibilità di seguire il cammino prima incerto poi sempre più spedito con cui, da un agglomerato di singole istanze di piccoli paesi, si arriva alla definizione di uno Stato unito e forte. Assolutamente poco comune e di difficile reperimento si presenta quest'opera pur con qualche difetto: il primo fascicolo slegato, una traccia di bruciatura (senza mancanza) al margine bianco superiore delle prime 15 carte, inoltre una fastidiosa fioritura della carta che dalle prime pagine va man mano diminuendo, limitandosi già dalla trentesima al solo margine interno bianco, fino a scomparire del tutto, lasciando il volume immacolato per il restante tre quarti.
