‎Einsiedeln, Gedruckt bei Gebrüder Karl und Nikolaus Benziger 1856. 8°. 16 SS. OBrosch. (leicht knittrig). Holzstich-Vignette a. Rückendeckel. Seiten marginal unterschiedlich etwas stockfleckig. Leichtere Alters- u. Gebrauchsspuren. Gesamthaft grossenteils sauberes, recht gutes Exemplar.‎

‎"Heute begehen wir das jährliche Andenken der Einweihung dieses schönen und geräumigen Gotteshauses [..]. [..] Es sind nahezu ein und dreißig Jahre, seitdem diese unsere Pfarrkirche, für deren Bau mein verdientester Vorgänger [i.e. Jakob Franz Riesch] sich so große Mühe gegeben, zum gottesdienstlichen Gebrauche eingesegnet wurde, und über neunzehn, seitdem sie von des Bischofs Hand feierlich ist eingeweihet worden." (p. 3 f.; vgl. V. Kessler, Die Pfarrwahl in Galgenen, in: MHVS 100, 2008, p. 240; zu Pfarrer F. J. Riesch, 1784-1860, von Lantsch / Lenz GR s. HBLS). - Pfarrer von Hallers Abschiedspredigt enthält nur wenige faktische Reminiszenzen: "Theure Pfarrkinder! Ihr habt während siebenzehn Jahren meine Stimme mit gläubiger Andacht vernommen in guten und bösen Tagen, in freudigen und betrübten Zeiten" (p. 4); der Grundton ist vorwiegend fromm, tröstlich, erbaulich und belehrend-ermahnend: "Fliehet die Welt, wo so viel Eitelkeit, Sinnlichkeit und fleischliche Begierde ist! Gehet nicht an Sonn- und Festtagen, während öffentlicher Gottesdienst in der Kirche ist, den weltlichen Vergnügungen nach, die jetzt über alles Maß zum sittlichen und ökonomischen Ruin des Volkes im Schwunge [sic] sind!" (p. 11). Abschliesssend dankt der scheidende Seelsorger seiner Gemeinde für das erhaltene Vertrauen und bittet angesichts der ihn erwartenden Aufgaben um Gedenken im Gebet: "Ein schweres Amt und eine große Verantwortung sind mir jetzt auferlegt, betet für mich, daß ich meinen Beruf erfülle und vor allem für das Heil meiner Seele sorge." (sic; p. 15). - Es handelt sich offensichtlich um Hallers Abschied von seiner Gemeinde in Galgenen, und es ist anzunehmen, dass die Predigt in der dortigen Pfarrkirche St. Martin gehalten wurde. Diese wurde unter der Leitung von Architekt Hans Konrad (od. Conrad) Stadler erbaut (HLS: 1822-1826). "Von 1821 bis 1825 dauerte der Bau der Kirche, der total 40.000 Gulden kostete. Am 13. November 1825 wurde der erste Gottesdienst in der neuen Kirche gefeiert." (Pfarrei Galgenen, online). Pfingsten des Jahres 1856 war am 11. Mai, der 22. Sonntag, der Tag der Abschiedspredigt, fiel demnach auf den 12. Oktober 1856. -- Albert von Haller (Bern 1808-1858 Chur), reformiert, ab 1826 katholisch, von Bern. Sohn des Politikers Karl Ludwig von Haller (1768-1854). Haller folgte seinem Vater nach Paris, als dieser wegen seiner Konversion zum Katholizismus Bern verlassen musste. (HLS). 1826 Konversion Alberts zum katholischen Glauben in Paris, 1829-1835 Studium der Philosophie und Theologie in Rom, Priester 1834, u.a. Sekretär von Nuntius Filippo de Angelis (1836-?) in Luzern, 1839 Vikar in Schwyz, 1839-1842 Pfarrer in Schwyz, 1842-1855 Pfarrer in Galgenen und Dekan des Priesterkapitels Ausser-Schwyz, seit 1855 nichtresidierender Churer Domherr, 1855-1858 Generalvikar des Bistums Chur, 18. März 1858 Ernennung zum Titularbischof von Carrhae (Mesopotanien) und Weihbischof von Chur, 29. Juni 1858 Bischofsweihe in der Klosterkirche zu Einsiedeln (durch den Bischof von Basel); etc.; vgl. ‎Carta geografica tratta dal Theatrum Orbis Terrarum di Ortelius, edizione latina del 1608. Sebbene datata in lastra 1606, la carta appare solo nelle edizioni a partire dal 1608. Si tratta di una delle poche carte aggiunte dal Vrients alla sua ristampa dell'atlante di Ortelius. Sembra possibile che il Vrients si ispiri alla prima, rarissima, versione della carta del territorio di Urbino di Giovanni Antonio Magini, non citandolo quale autore della carta. Il Theatrum Orbis Terrarum è considerato il primo vero “atlante” moderno. L’opera fu pubblicata in 7 lingue e 36 edizioni, per il quale – nel 1570 - Ortelius ottenne il privilegio, ovvero una sorta di diritto d'autore che impediva ad altri cartografi di pubblicare i propri lavori. Il Theatrum rappresentava il lavoro più avanzato del lavoro della descrizione cartografica. L’Ortelius vi raccolse il sapere geografico e cartografico del suo tempo, proponendo in 147 spettacolari tavole incise l’immagine più fedele del mondo allora conosciuto e, in alcune straordinarie “carte storiche”, regioni e itinerari tratti dalla letteratura, dalla mitologia, dalla tradizione. Ortelius fu anche il primo a citare le fonti, menzionando i nomi dei cartografi nel “catalogus auctorum”. Dal 1598 al 1612 le edizioni postume del Theatrum furono realizzate dal suo collaboratore Johannes Baptiste Vrients.  Incisone in rame, coloritura coeva, piccoli margini in basso, nel complesso in ottime condizioni. Though the plate bears the date of 1606, the map has been published only from 1608 on.Due to the close resemblance, very likely Vrients drove his inspiration from Magini’s work, though he did not mention him as the author. The Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, is considered the first true modern "Atlas". The work was published in 7 languages and 36 editions, for which - in 1570 - Ortelius obtained the privilege, a kind of copyright that prevented other cartographers from publishing his works. The Theatrum represented the most advanced work of cartographic description. Ortelius collected in it the geographical and cartographic knowledge of his time, proposing in 147 spectacular engraved plates the most faithful image of the world then known and, in some extraordinary "historical maps", regions and routes taken from literature, mythology, tradition. Ortelius was also the first to cite sources, mentioning the names of cartographers in the "catalogus auctorum". From 1598 to 1612 the posthumous editions of the Theatrum were made by his collaborator Johannes Baptiste Vrients. Copper engraving, contemporary colour, small lower margins, in excellent condition.
