The first miniature volume contains the essay "The Lost Art of Making Books"; the second "Ancient Paper-Making"; the third "Seventeenth Century Type-Making"; and the fourth contains thirteen paper samples folded into twenty-six pages. The majority of the text is comprised of a synopsis of The Life Work of Dard Hunter with annotations with a foreword and introduction by Henry Morris and Dard Hunter II respectively. Only 130 copies of the original two volume Life Work were printed and this book with its many samples illustrations and an expanded view of both father and son improves much on the relatively little amount of information available on two important men in the history of papermaking. One of the relatively few books commoner in the current book market than in institutional holdings only a few copies showing in WorldCat. Original oddly embossed publisher's green ribbed cloth gilt lettering and design on spine. Extremely worn and frayed but spine gilt all bright. Lacking preliminary pages book begins with the title page contents otherwise complete with all rear endpapers. Front hinge broken rear hinge intact. Ownership stamp of Albert J Perkins of Newark Wayne County New York possibly " Mr. Albert J Perkins who was one of the oldest Yale graduates and later served as instructor of chemistry at that university died at the county almshouse here today. He was 84 years old. In his early life he accumulated a comfortable fortune but reverses swept away his savings and for 39 years he had been an umbrella mender" and died in 1910 in Ballston. <br/> <br/> Derby & Jackson hardcover
