Soulié était un de mes bons amis: je m'associe donc de tout cœur à votre noble projet de perpétuer sa mémoire. Disposez, je vous en prie, & de ma salle de Concerts & de moi-même comme bon vous semblera […]". Dumas, der bei der Beisetzung am Friedhof Père-Lachaise seinerzeit neben Victor Hugo die Grabrede gehalten hatte, dankt ihm seine Bereitwilligkeit mit den Worten: "Merci mon cher Hertz". - Das von Dumas initiierte Denkmal sollte durch die Aktivitäten eines J. Gallois, eines Cousins des Verstorbenen und Anwalt von dessen einziger Schwester, nicht zustandekommen, doch wurde mehr als zwei Jahrzehnte später ein von anderen Personen gesponsertes Denkmal am Père-Lachaise eingeweiht (10. II. 1875).

Loewe (1882-1940) was "an English Orientalist. Loewe was born in London, the grandson of Louis Loewe. After completing his studies at Cambridge, he lived for a time as a teacher in the Middle East and then held academic appointments in England. After his return from military service in India (1917-19) , he became lecturer in rabbinic Hebrew at Oxford, and in 1931 he taught rabbinics at Cambridge and was lecturer in Hebrew at the University of London. For a generation, he was regarded in English academic circles as the representative of Jewish scholarship, in the same way as Israel Abrahams had been regarded before him. His home in the two university cities was a focus of Jewish life. Within the Jewish community he represented informed and tolerant Orthodoxy, moving freely in liberal (Reform) Jewish circles and collaborating closely with C. G. Montefiore, the founder of Liberal Judaism in England. His works include A Catalogue of the Aldis Wright MSS. In Trinity College, Cambridge, "Render unto Caesar", Mediaeval Hebrew Minstrelsy, Some Mediaeval Hebrew Poesy and a volume of annotations to Abrahams' and Stokes' Starrs and Jewish Charters in the British Museum, 2 volumes. Ma sempre interpretandole come un limite: come qualcosa di straniero alla vera musica. Lì appunto, invece, era il senso profondo di Berlioz, la ragion d'essere della sua presenza, la quale non era straniera alla vera, ma soltanto alla loro musica. Donde la sola deduzione possibile. Se il mondo musicale romantico non comprese Berlioz nel suo vero essere, fu semplicemente perché Berlioz, checché si continui a proclamare il contrario, non fu un compositore romantico. Fu soltanto un compositore dell'età romantica. Henry Barraud, in questa biografia, spogliata dell'aneddotica e del pittoresco, ricostruisce innanzi tutto la figura umana del musicista per coglierne il vero carattere, poi esamina il vastissimo, grandioso reame della sua musica, illuminandone la fondamentale solidità, il fondamentale equilibrio, la gran- de sintesi con le arti figurative e la letteratura, insieme con l'originalità, attraverso una lettura appassionata e appassionante condotta direttamente sui testi. Henry Barraud ha studiato composizione a Parigi con Paul Dukas. Nello stesso tempo, ha completato la sua formazione facendo largo spazio alle discipline umanistiche. Compositore fra i più illustri della Francia, tiene da anni una trasmissione radiofonica settimanale diventata un appuntamento obbligato per amatori di musica, persone colte e musicisti, che ne apprezzano la straordinaria capacità di rendere accessibili gli argomenti più vari riguardanti la musica. Questo Berlioz, che qui viene presentato in prima edizione mondiale, è l'ultimo di una serie di fortunati volumi.

Large 4to</p><p>8vo original marbled boards printed blue title & subscription leaves laid down on both covers.ii 1-24 23-26 25-36 2 subscription list printed on verso only pp. Printed cover & title page. Spine is pershing and protected by plastic which is giving the unusual coloring during scanning of the book covers.</p><p>Author's signature authentication stamp on front cover & title page. Edges are rubbed; small snag on the title page with no loss; some foxing; but a very remarkable survivor and an extremely rare book.</p><p>First and Only Edition. This Volume of 26 brief lessons and explanatory diagrams was produced to accompany the author's 'Nouvelle Méthode pour l'Enseignement de la Musique' which was also issued in Brest & Paris in 1832. Heugel describes himself on the title page as a 'Marchand de Musique et d'Instruments.' The hiccup in the pagination is due to the insertion of a four page signature printed on the interior pages only and with one recto marked '25 with a large diagram of the transposition of keys. The book was offered for 5 francs to subscribers and 6 francs to non subscribers and the lists on the rear cover and the final leaf of text provide the names and addresses of the subscription locations in Paris & Brest. OCLC locates but a single copy of the 'Nouvelle Methode.' and none of this work.</p><p>The item is housed at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester N.Y. but there are not a single copy of this companion volume listed anywhere. Los Angeles: Twentieth Century-Fox 1949. Revised Final script for the 1950 film. Bound presentation script belonging to producer Sol C. Siegel with his name in gilt on the front board. With 53 studio still photographs tipped in throughout four pages of retakes and added scenes tipped in at the rear as well as a number of manuscript annotations primarily denoting the titles of various musical numbers. <br /> <br /> Based on the short story "Stork Don't Bring Babies" by S.K. Lauren Grable and Dailey play a showbiz couple who discover in successive order that they cannot have children that they can adopt children and that they aren't really fit to raise children. But things get better with the help of several musical numbers scored by Harold Arlen. <br /> <br /> Bound in green faux leather boards with gilt titles and rule and marbled endpapers. Title page present dated Dec. 1 1949 noted as Revised Final with credits for screenwriters Trotti and Binyon. 191 leaves with last page of text numbered 130. Mimeograph duplication with blue revision pages throughout dated variously between 12/21/19 and 1/5/50. Pages Very Good plus photographs Near Fine with some bruising or chipping to the verso of the preceding page on either the top or bottom edge.
