Oxen Minuet by Franz Joseph Haydn - Sheet MusicFranz Joseph Haydnpublished by Theodore Presser Co.copyright 1914#: 11503Paperback/Sheet Music9.3 x 12.3 inches 5 pages
includes two lines of sheet music of 8 pieces of 3 1/2 - 4 Grade
The legend concerning Haydn's Oxen Minuet is amusing: It is said that a butcher of the festive Austrian capitol had the impudence to ask Haydn to compose a minuet for the wedding of his daughter to a peasant. Haydn at first was inclined to refuse this request but later he good naturedly consented to write the desired piece and sent the minuet. Here Haydn would have thought the thing ended The butcher was delighted with the coveted piece and wanted to show his appreciation A short time thereafter the composer heard the minuet being performed by a street orchestra outside his window and the butcher appeared at Haydn's doorstep with a huge ox decorated with ribbons and with gilded horns.
