br. La presenza del jazz nella cultura musicale mondiale è un dato difficilmente confutabile. Anche chi non conosce direttamente l'idioma jazz, inteso come genere musicale specifico nato in America, può - una volta resosene conto riconoscerne gli influssi su gran parte della musica occidentale del secolo scorso. Ma il jazz non è solo musica bensì un mero 'fatto sociale', e se prima coinvolgeva solo il popolo afroamericano adesso va inteso a livello 'glocale'. Questo saggio è arricchito dalla prefazione dell'autorevole pensatore Zygmunt Bauman e, pur non avendo la pretesa di voler essere una sorta di 'sociologia della musica jazz', affronta l'argomento della musica afroamericana - con tutte le sue peculiarità quali l'improvvisazione e quant'altro - sotto un profilo squisitamente socio-antropologico, partendo dalle teorie classiche fino ad analizzare quelle prospettive relative al mondo della globalizzazione. A tal proposito il jazz, come linguaggio musicale, assume da sempre un ruolo significativo nei processi di costruzione sociale della realtà e dell'immaginario individuale e collettivo.
