Un libro che parte da uno dei classici della cultura medica olistica, perché è la rilettura - in chiave contemporanea - dell'opera centrale del creatore dell'Omeopatia, ossia l'Organon dell'arte del guarire di Samuel Hahnemann. Il testo per eccellenza della dottrina omeopatica è ora accessibile a tutti coloro che vogliono chiarezza in un mondo dove per troppi anni è regnata la confusione, storicamente creata ad arte dai detrattori di una pratica così efficace che perfino Carlo Alberto di Savoia volle creare a Torino un ospedale omeopatico dove si curasse esclusivamente con tale metodo. ill., br. Tra l'ultimo scorcio dell'Ottocento e i primissimi del Novecento, l'anomala situazione di Arezzo, fino a quel momento privo di una struttura manicomiale autonoma, approdò a una soluzione. È a questo punto che in quella complessa e travagliata storia si innesta la straordinaria figura del nuovo direttore, Arnaldo Pieraccini. Giunto ad Arezzo nel 1904, Pieraccini azzerò il precedente progetto di costruzione del nuovo Manicomio per procedere alla realizzazione di un Istituto sotto molti aspetti all'avanguardia e gestito con trasparenza ed efficienza. Il racconto, che coinvolge e mette in primo piano alcuni fra gli esponenti politici, amministrativi e sanitari del tempo, si snoda attraverso la sua biografia umana, intellettuale e politica: dalla sua partecipazione al governo dei Comune di Arezzo nel 1911 al tentativo fascista di indicarlo come responsabile morale dei fatti di sangue del paese di Renzino del 1921, dal suo licenziamento nel 1934 perché non iscritto ai Fascio alia sua immediata riassunzione, dal trasferimento di un pezzo di Manicomio a Galbino nei mesi dei bombardamenti angloamericani alla sua appassionata opera per la ricostruzione dell'Istituto dopo la guerra, dai grandi dolori familiari fino al pensionamento. In mezzo, la statura di un personaggio che seppe conquistare popolarità in città e le sue idee, innovative per il tempo, per la cura dei malati di mente, insieme all'invenzione del Padiglione neurologico e alla trasformazione del Manicomio in Ospedale Neuropsichiatrico.
