LUIGI BIGNAMI, GIANLUCA RANZINI, DANIELE VENTUROLI
LA VITA NELL'UNIVERSO
MAI SFOGLIATO, COME NUOVO. LIEVI SEGNI DEL TEMPO. Siamo soli nell'universo? Informazioni bibliografiche Titolo: La vita nell'universo Collana: Biblioteca delle scienze Autori: Luigi Bignami, Gianluca Ranzini, Daniele Venturoli Editore: Milano: Bruno Mondadori, 2003 ISBN: 8842493929, 9788842493921 Pagine: XIV-241; 23 cm Reparto: Metodologia scientifica Formato: illustrato Soggetti: Astrofisica, Astronomia, Cosmologia, Fisica, Scienze, Marte, Terra, Sistema Solare, Pianeti, Comete, Asteroidi, Vita, Spazio, Altre Vite, Stelle, Apollo, Luna, Missioni, Fisiologia Spaziale, Civiltà Intelligenti, Seti, Extraterrestri, Ufo, Via Lattea, Fermi, Viaggi Interstellari, Universo, Principio Antropico, Esobiologia, Drake, Divulgazione scientifica

Man and the Planets: The resources of the solar system
UK: Ashgrove Press 1983. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8.7 x 5.5 x 1.3 inches. h/b 306 pages condition is very good. The DJ has been price clipped. This is an important and timely book which analyses the resources of the Solar System and man's capacity to make use of them. Starting from Kardashev's idea that there are three hypothetical levels of civilization - control of planet's resources of a planetary system and of a galaxy - it shows how Man at present close to attaining the first of these may advance to the second and indeed must do for long-term survival. In so doing Man and the Planets examines present and proposed means of space transport and discusses man's colonization of the Solar System including the use of mobile space colonies. It shows how the different planetary environments may be exploited: the heat of Mercury has industrial applications and Jupiter's mighty atmosphere contains vast quantities of precious chemical isotopes rare on earth while Mars and Venus have longer term possibilities. More remote possibilities such as the creation of a new sun at the furthest fringes of the Solar System from the interstellar dust there are also considered . Fundamentally conservationist in tone this provocative book chronicles the likely emergence of Man from the terrestrial cradle as he sets out on the greatest adventure of them all.

Ashgrove Press hardcover
