Il Logos ricevuto come rivelazione o penetrato con sguardo acuto attraverso le cose, pone Eraclito in contrasto con coloro che credono di potere spiegare su un piano logico il suo vero contenuto. Significato di Logos: non Ragione, ma in verità Raziocinio, prodotto dalla «presunzione»; piuttosto «linguaggio della Natura», ed anche «voce», «suono» della Natura: OM indiano. Duplice interpretazione degli Èbtea Epea kai erga (parole e azioni): l'aspetto semantico-filologico in Eraclito: riferimento alla «màyà umana» e alla «màyà divina» del Bhagavad Gita indiano. II Capitolo Eraclito e il Culto religioso Equivocità del culto: culto aberrante (fine a sé stesso) e culto catartico (come mezzo): impostazione psicologica non ontologica. Psicofisicità dell'esperienza del divino. Eraclito e l'Orfismo: sentire-vedere-vivere e non sapere-conoscere (Teologia). L'esperienza mistica. III Capitolo Eraclito e il numero pitagorico Che significato ha? Pitagora «mago» e pedagogo. Il numero è «magico»: il numero come ponte tra il «limitato» e l'«Illimitato»: «strumentalismo magico». Il mondo «respira». Tra il «divenire » di Eraclito e il «numero» pitagorico non vi è contrasto. Concetto di Armonia. IV Capitolo Divenire di Eraclito ed Essere di Parmenide Contro il luogo comune che Eraclito è il filosofo del divenire e Parmenide il filosofo dell'Essere: diversità d'ambiente. Divenire eracliteo ed Essere di Parmenide sono due aspetti dello stesso problema: differente l'impostazione psicologica dei due filosofi. Rapporti tra Eraclito, Pitagora, Parmenide. V Capitolo Eraclito e il Naturalismo di fronte al binomio Socrate-Platone L'ironia e l'anti-intellettualismo di Socrate lo pone più vicino ai Naturalisti che al «platonismo»? «Capovolgimento dei valori» col «platonismo»: il «conoscere e il sapere» al posto del « vedere e del sentire». Il numero «dimostrativo» al posto del numero «magico» di Pitagora. VI Capitolo È forse possibile dimenticare Hegel? Troppo noti ed evidenti i rapporti tra Eraclito ed Hegel: lo stesso filone spirituale e lo stesso tentativo di «soluzione» li unisce. Contro il dualismo e contro l'«Isolamento» dell'individuo dalla Natura. Due tentativi di soluzione per reintegrarsi nella Natura: quello mistico-lirico-romantico nell'antichità con i Naturalisti in genere e nel nostro '800 con Schelling: quello razionale nell'antichità con il «platonismo», nel nostro '800 con la «dialettica» hegeliana. Se possiamo dire che il «platonismo» è fallito nelle sue mete ultime, non possiamo forse dire la stessa cosa per la «triadicità» hegeliana? anche se quest'ultima più promettente e più suggestiva della prima? Each volume is clean square and bound in the original maroon cloth stamped in gold on the spine and front cover. Inner hinges in volumes 2 and 3 are cracked but still holding. Only one of the plain paper Dust Jackets vol. I is Good; the other two are Poor separated at the spine with edge tears. All pages are clean and unmarked. Volumes II and III appeared in 1954 and 1956 respectively. Volume I was published last in 1957. This set was among several dozen books from Alonzo Church's library that we were lucky enough to purchase at auction in New Jersey. Several of the books contain his signature or a presentation inscription to him. Unfortunately these volumes do not have signs of his ownership. But please check our inventory for several others that do. Alonzo Church 1903 - 1995 was professor of mathematics at Princeton University 1929-1967 and of mathematics and philosophy at UCLA 1967-1990. He was the founding editor of the JOURNAL OF SYMBOLIC LOGIC. Among his most influential contributions are Church's Theorem Church's Thesis and the Lambda Calculus. His work was of major importance in mathematical logic recursion theory theoretical computer science and functional programming languages in general. Professor Church's creation of lambda calculus was the foundation for the LISP programming language and provided the semantic model for ALGOL. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences British Academy and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Church is regarded by many as the greatest American logician of the 20th century. In the present paper G�del seminally formulates his earlier incompleteness results from the standpoint of first-order logic thereby contributing substantially to modern mathematical logic.<br><br>"In 1932 Godel published his formulation of the incompleteness results from the standpoint of first order logic. If number theory is regarded as a formal system in first-order logic then the above results about incompleteness and unprovability of consistency apply to S. If however S is extended by variables for sets of numbers for sets of sets of numbers and so on together with the corresponding comprehension axioms then we obtain a sequence of systems S; the consistency of each system is provable in all subsequent systems. But in each subsequent system there are undecidable propositions. Going up in type in this way he noted corresponds in a type-free system of set theory to adding axioms that postulate the existence of larger and larger infinite cardinalities. This was the beginning of G�del's interest in large cardinal axioms an interest that he elaborated in 1947 in regard to the continuum problem."
