Spirito scanzonato e irriverente, Terry Rudolph trae invece uno speciale piacere dalle bizzarrie di questa affascinante teoria che da quasi un secolo appassiona e divide il mondo della fisica, e vorrebbe condividerlo con il maggior numero possibile di persone, convinto com'è che persino un lettore ignaro di conoscenze matematiche (se si escludono le quattro operazioni) possa essere introdotto ai suoi misteri. Ha scritto così un libro, in cui, evitando scrupolosamente quelle espressioni gergali il cui uso improprio è spesso fonte di confusione, utilizza mezzi semplicissimi: palline bianche e nere che entrano ed escono da scatole in luogo di fotoni ed elettroni; simpatiche figure in luogo di pesanti apparati matematici e lunghi ragionamenti; e divertenti, piccole storie che ci vedono protagonisti. Altro non serve. Scopriremo, dopo averlo letto, di essere stati iniziati, senza accorgercene e in maniera quasi indolore, ai concetti chiave del mondo quantistico: sovrapposizione, separabilità, azioni a distanza, nonlocalità. E la nostra percezione della realtà fisica, che abbiamo ereditato dalla tradizione occidentale degli ultimi due o tre millenni, non sarà più la stessa.

"The problem with which we shall be concerned is the noise performance of a multiterminal-pair amplifier used in conjunction with a multiterminal-pair signal source. We shall investigate the values of signal-to-noise ratio and exchangeable signal power that can be obtained at a single-output terminal pair by interconnecting such a source and amplifier." from Wikipedia The author William D. Rummler has received at least one patent in the area of radio communications and became a member of IEEE in 1989 for Radio Communication. He worked for a number of years for Bell Telephone. He is best known for his work in the area of Signal-to-Noise Ratio which relates to this technical report which measures the relationship of the signal to background noise that can hamper clarity.
