brossura Lo studio e l'insegnamento della fisica affondano le proprie radici già molto presto nell'università della Roma dei papi. Ma è solo con l'annessione al nuovo stato unitario e la promozione a capitale che la fisica romana si porta ad un livello paragonabile a quello dei principali centri di ricerca europei. Nel libro vengono presentate le diverse tappe di questo sviluppo, dalle origini nella Roma pontificia alla realizzazione del nuovo istituto di via Panisperna da parte di Pietro Blaserna, attraverso l'opera di Orso Mario Corbino e la breve stagione del gruppo diretto da Enrico Fermi, per poi esaminare il periodo della guerra e gli anni della ricostruzione e arrivare alla fine degli anni Cinquanta, quando, con la realizzazione del laboratorio di Frascati, la ricerca in fisica assume anche in Italia una nuova dimensione. Larga parte del materiale presentato si basa su documentazione d'archivio inedita che permette di aggiungere dettagli nuovi ad una storia peraltro solo parzialmente già conosciuta.
