The Folio Society 2005. Hardcover. Fine. As new in an as new slipcase. This is the second printing of The Folio Society edition. The introduction by Roger Penrose is an important essay. The special theory of relativity was first published in 1905 in the article "Zur Elektrodynamik bewegter Korper" in the journal ANNLEN DER PHYSIK. The general theory of relativity was first published in 1916 in the article "Grunlage der allgemeinen Relativitatstheorie" in the same journal. The two articles were then published together in 1916 by Verlag von Friedrich Viewhweg & Sohn under the title " Uber die spezielle und allgemeine Relativitatstheorie" . It was first translated into English in 1920 and published by Methuen & Co. in England and by Henry Holt & Co. in the United States. The text of the Folio edition follows that of the enlarged fifteenth edition published by Methuen in 1954 with minor emendations. The translation is by Robert W. Lawson.
