Moving beyond debates on the democratic value of new and emerging information technologies The Real Cyber War focuses on political economic and geopolitical factors driving internet freedom policies in particular the U.S. State Department's emerging doctrine in support of a universal freedom to connect. They argue that efforts to create a universal internet built upon Western legal political and social preferences is driven by economic and geopolitical motivations rather than the humanitarian and democratic ideals that typically accompany related policy discourse. In fact the freedom-to-connect movement is intertwined with broader efforts to structure global society in ways that favor American and Western cultures economies and governments. Il digitale non è un canale da aggiungere al mondo fisico e nemmeno una catena del valore che si affianca all'attuale sdoppiando funzioni, divisioni e processi: le tecnologie digitali attivano una vera e propria nuova organizzazione che si riflette nell'esigenza di rinnovare competenze e processi per una sintesi immediata tra reale e virtuale. La seconda risposta è un cambiamento strategico. L'impresa digitale non ha più al centro i prodotti e i servizi venduti, ma i clienti serviti: la funzione marketing diventerà sempre più quantitativa e algoritmica ma accanto ad essa tutti, a partire dal CEO, dovranno prendere dimestichezza con le logiche della user experience, del customer journey e del marketing funnel. La terza risposta comporta un ridisegno della filiera di produzione del valore, a partire da una nuova concezione dinamica di frame quali l'open innovation, l'e-commerce e il CRM. La quarta e ultima risposta risiede in un cambiamento culturale: alla luce di parole-chiave come sostenibilità e purpose aziendale, l'efficienza della macchina dovrà coniugarsi con l'umanesimo della creatività. Su questo punto esistono ancora poche certezze scientifiche. Una cosa però è certa: la complessità delle sfide di domani potrà essere affrontata solo da un nuovo manager-imprenditore in una nuova human digital enterprise.

Ma non è solo colpa nostra: dalle interviste tagliate ad arte ai fotomontaggi, dai codici nascosti ai furti di profilo, fino alle vere e proprie catene di siti create apposta per diffondere disinformazione e lucrare sui nostri peggiori impulsi, gli inganni che riempiono la Rete ormai sono gestiti da professionisti. Per difendercene, dunque, occorre un professionista. Un «debunker», che come un singolare supereroe dei tempi moderni si è scelto la missione di smascherare le false notizie del web e bonificare l'informazione digitale. «Non basta sapere di essere male informati, occorre capire in che modo e perché» scrive David Puente. «E la diagnosi comincia da una domanda: cui prodest? br. La verità è un concetto labile e sfuggente che coesiste con un essere umano emotivo e imperfetto, limitato nelle sue capacità conoscitive. L'avvento di internet, e soprattutto dei social network, ha facilitato l'accesso a una grande massa di informazioni senza mediazioni, e ha generato la pretesa che questa porta d'ingresso conducesse alla conoscenza, fino ad allora prerogativa delle élite. La rete però pare stia tradendo le aspettative di molti, producendo, più che un'intelligenza, una disinformazione pericolosa (e spesso strumentalizzata) e una grave radicalizzazione nell'opinione pubblica. E così, a colpi di paradossi e cortocircuiti, il World Economic Forum nel 2013 ha inserito la disinformazione come minaccia globale, e oggi molte di quelle minacce sembrano aver preso forma; e secondo l'autorevole Oxford Dictionary, «post-truth» è diventata la parola del 2016.

Quella contemporanea è l'epoca dell'informazione h24, della velocità delle notizie che attraverso il web e i social network fanno il giro del mondo in pochi minuti, della possibilità di accedere a contenuti e documenti prima raggiungibili soltanto da pochi: eppure questa è paradossalmente anche l'epoca che ha visto il proliferare incontrollato di informazioni false che, una volta entrate nel circuito della rete e dei media tradizionali, è praticamente impossibile bloccare.
