Rispetto ai segnali di chiusura del digital gender divide registrati in alcuni contesti territoriali, il volume si propone di mettere a fuoco le caratteristiche delle donne italiane nel peculiare ambito nazionale, contraddistinto da una arretratezza digitale tout court piuttosto marcata, con l'obiettivo di individuare quei fattori che contribuiscono a favorire o a ostacolare l'inclusione dei diversi segmenti della popolazione femminile. Nel solco di una diffusa utopia della partecipazione, che vede aumentare progressivamente e costantemente la platea degli inclusi digitali, si colloca una lettura che sostiene l'avvenuta conquista delle pari opportunità digitali da parte delle donne: il mondo di Internet sarebbe, dunque, il regno dell'uguaglianza di genere. Tuttavia, prima di accettare questa posizione e le implicazioni a essa conseguenti, è necessario rispondere a numerosi interrogativi che ancora rimangono aperti e sollecitano una riflessione urgente. Il miraggio di una "società dell'informazione per tutti" si infrange così contro l'evidenza: il cyberspazio rimane ancora una prerogativa di alcuni, mentre altri restano intrappolati fuori dalla rete. In particolare, quella parte di popolazione femminile a più alto rischio di esclusione sociale, prima che digitale, corre il pericolo di subire il peso dell'"effetto Matilda".

br. Questo libro propone per ogni argomento una selezione di attività adatte ai diversi livelli di istruzione, dalla scuola primaria alla secondaria di 1° e 2° grado. Il primo capitolo della parte teorica riguarda i meccanismi di costruzione del gruppo e le caratteristiche del bullismo in generale. La seconda parte mette a fuoco le prevaricazioni tra pari che hanno radice nella discriminazione di alcune categorie di persone, maggiormente esposte perché ritenute "diverse". Parliamo delle prepotenze verso ragazzi di altre culture o religioni, alunni disabili, persone omosessuali o ritenute tali, ragazze oppresse dai compagni maschi per una supposta superiorità di genere. Nella terza parte, cambiamo piano - dal "perché" del bullismo al "come" -, per parlare di cyberbullismo, quello che utilizza internet o il cellulare come strumento di aggressione o di divulgazione, sottolineandone i possibili rischi estremi sia per l'equilibrio della persona offesa, sia per la rilevanza penale dei comportamenti. Alla media education e ad alcuni pericoli della rete, il sexting, sono dedicati gli ultimi due capitoli nella sezione teorica e l'ultima parte del manuale operativo. Il cellulare e la rete, per questa generazione di bambini e ragazzi, sono presenze naturali e irrinunciabili e divengono un prolungamento del sé su cui investono molto. Per tutte queste ragioni è importante capire il loro punto di osservazione sui media e aiutarli ad esplicitarlo e a metterlo in discussione, confrontandosi anche con i rischi. Questo libro-manuale è un valido strumento per docenti e operatori che lavorano nella scuola e nei centri educativi.
