Bella ristampa di Amsterdam del capolavoro di Grozio, opera fondante del giusnaturalismo moderno. Il “De Jure Belli ac Pacis” fu steso da Grozio nel periodo del suo esilio parigino e dato alle stampe nel 1625 per i tipi di Nicolas Buon. In una serrata indagine sui fondamenti dell’autorità statale, Grozio confuta le basi teologiche della stessa e, in un’ epoca lacerata dalle guerre di religione, cerca invece di porla su principi razionali e naturali. Il diritto pubblico, nella sistematizzazione di Grozio, diventa una scienza deduttiva simile alla matematica; lo stato di natura, con l’associazione tra individui fondata sulle mere leggi naturali, precede sempre e comunque lo stato politico, che, tuttavia, nel suo costituirsi, deve ispirarsi al modello naturale rispettandone le leggi di base. (Cfr. Sapori, 1465). Bell’esemplare, in ottimo stato di conservazione.‎
