Maxwell Museum of Anthropology
Seven Families in Pueblo Pottery.
Albuquerque New Mexico: University of New Mexico Press 1974. 112 Pages. Glossy stiff covers. No marks or stamps.Just a hint of age-tanning to cover/spine area. This book was originally published as the catalogue for a 1974 exhibition of Pueblo pottery at the University of New Mexico's Maxwell Museum of Anthropology. It traces the developments in style and technique in the pottery produced by seven Pueblo families. The profuse color and black and white photographs sequence the potter's art. A history of each family is traced by the oldest living family member. The pieces selected for exhibit represent a nearly complete chronological sequence of the potter's art within each family as far back in time as the oldest lving member can recall and provides statements made by each artist about his or her individual family work. Pottery making is an ancient art among the Pueblos and the fundamental process of pottery making has remained the same through time although style and design have changed as the exhibit documents. Key technical and historical terms are defined in a short glossary. . 13th Printing. Trade Paperback. Near Fine. 7" x 7". University of New Mexico Press Paperback
