‎About the Book:- PATTERNS OF CULTURE, an anthropological work published in 1934 that became one of the most widely read pieces of social science ever written in the United States. Its author, Ruth Benedict, did no fieldwork, but wrote evocatively about cultural diversity. She helped persuade a generation of Americans that members of their own society were generally too quick to judge negatively the values and practices of people different from themselves. Patterns of Culture did more than any other work to popularize "cultural relativism," the notion that the "good" is not absolute and universal, but relative to a particular culture. About the Author:- Ruth Fulton Benedict (1887–1948) was an American anthropologist and folklorist. She was born in New York City, attended Vassar College and graduated in 1909. After studying anthropology at the New School of Social Research under Elsie Clews Parsons, she entered graduate studies at Columbia University in 1921, where she studied under Franz Boas. She received her PhD and joined the faculty in 1923. Margaret Mead, with whom she shared a romantic relationship, and Marvin Opler, were among her students and colleagues. Benedict was President of the American Anthropological Association and was also a prominent member of the American Folklore Society. She became the first woman to be recognized as a prominent leader of a learned profession. She can be viewed as a transitional figure in her field, redirecting both anthropology and folklore away from the limited confines of culture-trait diffusion studies and towards theories of performance as integral to the interpretation of culture. She studied the relationships between personality, art, language and culture, insisting that no trait existed in isolation or self-sufficiency, a theory which she championed in her 1934 book Patterns of Culture. Second edition limited to 2000 copies.<br /> Alberto Ruz Huiller Director of Research at Palenque for Mexico's Instituto National de Arqueologia y Historia had been working in the Temple of the Inscriptions for many days. It took Ruz four long years working in hot weather to follow a stairwell that led him 80 vertical feet that terminated in a chamber 30 feet long and 13 feet wide with a high vaulted arch of 23 feet. There he discovered a room with a flagstone in the middle of it with the help of Guadalupe Pech Hernandez Alberto Sanchez Lopez Tomas Mendoza and Arturo Romano. When he took further notice of the room he discovered that the walls of the room went far below the floor itself. He then realized that the flagstone was left there to seal off a chamber below this room. Finally in the summer of 1952 Ruz discovered a hidden room not seen for thousands of years. The room was a tomb for the great ruler of Palenque.
