‎Italien, Polen und die Türkei sind als Herkunftsgebiete von Arbeitswanderern hierzulande bestens bekannt. Nur wenige wissen, dass im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert auch aus Slowenien Zehntausende von Arbeitssuchenden nach West- und Süddeutschland gelangten. Um 1872 verließen die ersten slowenischen Bergleute und Landwirte die habsburgischen Kronländer Krain und Steiermark, um ins Ruhrgebiet zu ziehen. Dort wurden sie bald unter dem Namen ?Westfälische Slowenen? bekannt. Mit dem deutsch-jugoslawischen Anwerbeabkommen von 1968 konzentrierte sich die slowenische Deutschland-Migration vor allem auf Bayern. Damals beschäftigte Audi in Ingolstadt ähnlich viele Arbeitskräfte aus Slowenien wie die Zechen am Niederrhein um 1900. Es lohnt, die Mobilität, die Rück- und Weiterwanderung, die Wohnsituation und die kulturelle Praxis der Migranten beider Epochen ebenso zu vergleichen wie deren konfessionelle Bindungen, die Arbeitskämpfe und das Vereinswesen.
