Il dr. Philippe Even sostiene che abbassare il valore del colesterolo non implica una riduzione nel numero di decessi attribuiti alle malattie coronariche e cerebrovascolari. Molti studi finanziati da grandi aziende farmaceutiche hanno tentato di dimostrare l'utilità delle "statine" per abbassare il colesterolo e ridurre le complicanze cardiovascolari, ma nessuno di questi, secondo l'autore, ha mostrato alcuna diminuzione della mortalità per infarto cardiaco.
