L'occhio deve sempre essere in movimento: un occhio immobilizzato diventa cieco, ecco perché i polli, il cui occhio non può muoversi autonomamente, sono costretti a ruotare continuamente la testa. E se il pensiero fosse una risposta evolutiva all'atto di vedere? Perché gli uomini hanno la sclera nell'occhio e le altre specie no? Ecco soltanto alcuni fra i tantissimi temi toccati da questo libro dedicato all'occhio e alla visione. L'organo della vista, lungi dall'essere strumento di misurazione "oggettiva" del mondo, permette d'interpretare soltanto una frazione della realtà. Vedere è un problema di relazioni tra le cose, ed è un'attività differenziata e complessa, adattata a diversi scopi, negli adulti, nei bambini, negli uccelli o negli insetti.
