‎Paris. No date. Ca. late 1700s. Copperplate engraving handcolored plate mark 10 1/2 x 16 inches on sheet 13 x 19 1/2 inches. Soiling to outer margins and a couple of tears to upper edge not affecting image 1/8 inch hole to left image barely noticeable a couple of faint foxing spots. This is an example of a "vue d'optique" or perspective view a popular print from the second half of the 18th century designed to be projected with a viewing device a zograscope or perspective glass which enhanced the illusion of depth and perspective providing something of a 3D effect. ‎Paris. 1760. Copperplate engraving handcolored sheet 12 3/4 x 16 3/4 inches MOUNTED ON THIN CARDBOARD. Some puckering of sheet from mounting image is clean. An attractive view of the inner harbor of Delfshaven. This is an example of a "vue d'optique" or perspective view a popular print from the second half of the 18th century designed to be projected with a viewing device a zograscope or perspective glass which enhanced the illusion of depth and perspective providing something of a 3D effect. Like many prints of this type there is a title printed in mirror image at the top of the print since the print was reversed when projected and the coloring is broad. There is a most interesting and thorough article by C.J. Kaldenbach "Perspective Views" which was originally published in Print Quarterly June 1985 and is now available for viewing on the web. . unknown‎
