br. Combattere una guerra non è mai cosa banale: occorrono mezzi, uomini, strategie e soprattutto un obiettivo, quello di sconfiggere il nemico. Va da sé che, in ogni guerra che si rispetti, al termine delle ostilità si conteranno milioni di vite spezzate, da una parte e dall'altra. Ma quella che si sta tuttora combattendo dall'inizio del 2020 è una guerra diversa, unica nel suo genere, una guerra batteriologica già vissuta nei secoli precedenti, e alla quale non si era affatto preparati. E come tale di proporzioni mondiali, senza esclusione di razze, età, sesso e religioni, che non ha risparmiato gerarchie politiche e sociali. Una guerra contro un nemico invisibile: un virus. Diverso, molto diverso da quello a cui si è abituati ogni autunno, quando una buona parte della popolazione finisce al letto con febbre, raffreddori e mal di gola. Ma un nemico di ben altro spessore che ha mietuto e continua a mietere milioni di vittime in ogni parte dell'emisfero terrestre. E, ancora da definire, se nato in natura (come ritengono molti scienziati con il salto di specie) o in laboratorio (e allora il discorso acquisirebbe una diversa connotazione). In comune con il normale virus dell'influenza il covid ha solo la modalità di contagio: un banale starnuto, un colpo di tosse, una stretta di mano, un abbraccio, un bacio. Manifestazioni comuni a cui tutti siamo, pardon, eravamo abituati sin da piccoli ma che oggi, con la pandemia, hanno assunto un aspetto oscuro, per non dire nefasto. Secondo una statistica pubblicata il 20 marzo scorso su Scienze & Tech: "il Covid 19 uccide 3 persone su 100 che lo hanno contratto e ogni persona malata ne infetta a sua volta altre di 3.2. E che, nei casi più gravi, provoca una polmonite che ha, nel 5% necessità del ricovero d'urgenza in ospedale e, con l'aggravarsi, in terapia intensiva". È ovvio che, come ogni virus che attacca l'uomo, la sua capacità di azione è commisurata al sistema immunitario con cui viene a contatto, all'età della persona, al suo stato di salute oltre che alla virulenza del virus stesso. Va da sé che con il covid 19 sono state più le fasce deboli a pagare dazio: anziani, persone con patologie pregresse, disabili. Anche se abbiamo imparato che con questo virus non è mai una regola fissa. Bisogna a questo punto guardarsi dentro e capire in realtà che cosa stia succedendo e, soprattutto, di chi siano le responsabilità. Non certo degli animali, come qualcuno ha superficialmente sentenziato.

In 4° (24x18 cm); 38, (2) pp. Senza brossura ma non slegati. In buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione. Prima edizione rara. Importante discorso dedicato alla diagnostica medica precoce e corretta in presenza di epidemie o di mali sintomatici, del grande medico parmense Giacomo Tommasini (Parma, 2 luglio 1768 - 26 novembre 1846). Dopo un periodo di praticantato all'Ospedale di Parma, ottenne una borsa di studio per corsi di perfezionamento sulle nuove metodologie mediche nelle università di Pavia, Padova, Bologna, Pisa e Torino. Fece viaggi di studio anche all'estero, in Francia ed Inghilterra. Nel 1792 ebbe l'incarico di sostituto del prof. Cortesi nella cattedra di medicina pratica. Nel 1794 fu nominato professore di fisiologia e patologia. Le sue lezioni erano talmente apprezzate che ottenne un aumento di stipendio in via straordinaria. Tenne la cattedra fino al 1815. Durante il primo impero francese l'Università di Parma, che pure si era guadagnata fama di ottimo ateneo, subì un decreto di soppressione in seguito ad un piano di ristrutturazione degli istituti di insegnamento superiore. La città di Parma diede incarico a Tommasini, assieme al conte Filippo Linati e al banchiere Giuseppe Serventi, di recarsi a Genova, dove si trovava in quel momento l'imperatore Napoleone Bonaparte, per chiedere la revoca del provvedimento. Fu specialmente Tommasini che, esponendo la causa con particolare eloquenza, riuscì ad ottenere la sospensione del decreto. Tommasini fu tra i principali redattori del Giornale Medico Chirurgico, edito a Parma dal 1806 al 1813. Durante il governo Napoleonico ricoprì diverse cariche: Ispettore Generale della Pubblica Istruzione, Segretario al Consiglio del Dipartimento del Taro, membro del Consiglio di Sanità Pubblica. Fu uno dei primi soci corrispondenti della Società Medica di Bologna. Già prima della sua ammissione a tale società l'università di Bologna gli aveva fatto offerte per trasferirsi da Parma a Bologna; dopo non poche trattative nel 1815 Tommasini accettò la cattedra di Clinica Medica a Bologna, succedendo al prof. Antonio Testa. A Bologna Tommasini affermò la necessità di adottare il metodo sperimentale nella pratica medica, ciò che costituiva un radicale cambiamento rispetto ai metodi in gran parte empirici fino ad allora usuali. Nel 1819 venne fondata la rivista "Nuova Dottrina Medica Italiana", che fece propri i concetti di Tommasini. Nel 1828 alcuni professori dell'università di Bologna, tra cui Tommasini, furono accusati di appartenere a società segrete rivoluzionarie e furono invitati a dimettersi. Chiesero di essere sottoposti a un processo e furono assolti, ma Tommasini fu amareggiato da questa vicenda e tornò a Parma, adducendo il motivo di dover curare il conte Neipperg, in quel periodo effettivamente ammalato. Si reinsediò all'università e ottenne altre cariche di prestigio, tra cui quella di Protomedico dello Stato e di medico consulente della sovrana regnante, la duchessa Maria Luisa d'Austria. Fu chiamato anche lontano da Parma a curare alte personalità, come Carolina d'Inghilterra a Pesaro e al capezzale di madama Letizia, madre di Napoleone Bonaparte, a Roma. Giacomo Tommasini era noto per essere un piacevole e fine parlatore e un elegante scrittore, sia in italiano che in latino. Ottenne molte onorificenze, tra cui la Legion d'Onore, l'Ordine Costantiniano di San Giorgio, la Medaglia d'Oro per i benemeriti della salute pubblica. La città di Parma gli ha dedicato una via del centro storico, Borgo Giacomo Tommasini (chiamato popolarmente "borgo Giacomo"), che collega Strada della Repubblica a Borgo Felino. Ottimo stato di conservazione. Prima, non comune edizione, di questo scritto del celebre medico cremonese, Paolo Valcarenghi. L’autore fu professore di Medicina Pratica nell’Università di Pavia e aggregato al Collegio dei Medici di Milano. A Cremona collaborò anche con il vescovo Alessandro Litta nell’analisi di alcuni casi di esorcismo e possessione demoniaca. Pubblicò anche un celebre studio dedicato alle epidemie che colpirono il territorio cremonese nella prima metà del settecento.
