Fascicolo delle Memorie della Societa' medico - chirurgica di Bologna interamente dedicato a questo importante studio letto nelle sedute del 1 settembre e 1 ottobre 1840 e considerate una pietra miliare della ortopedia italiana. Alla base dei suoi studi v'era la chirurgia sperimentale e l'anatomia patologica sui cadaveri. Il suo metodo consisteva nel provocare lussazioni nei cadaveri, e poi studiare in termini anatomo - patologici muscoli, legamenti e capsula articolare in modo da comprendere gli ostacoli che si opponevano alla riduzione. '...per quanto concerne la patologia dei femore, nella magistrale monografia <em>Memorie di chirurgia sperimentale sulle lussazioni traumatiche del femore</em>, Bologna 1841, il F., sulla scorta delle osservazioni anatomopatologiche in corso di lussazioni provocate sperimentalmente, pote' distinguere con precisione fra quanto concerne la frattura da una parte e la lussazione del collo del femore dall'altra...'. Fabbri, nato a S. Michele in Bosco, presso Bologna, divenne medico a 20 anni. Si occupo' in particolare di ostetricia e e ortopedia, occupo' diverse cattedre, tra queste Bologna e Camerino.
