La concezione anarchica del vivente
br. La genetica è nata e si è sviluppata su un presupposto deterministico: la stabilità del gene e la sua trasmissibilità ereditaria. Eppure tutta la biologia contemporanea ci parla della variabilità come di una condizione permanente ed essenziale dell'essere vivente che non può essere ridotta a puro rumore o fluttuazione: il caso non è un accidente che perturba il processo deterministico. Nel vivente non c'è un ordine stabilito bensì un disordine organizzato che rende possibile la vita e la sua evoluzione. Ampliando il campo di applicazione dell'ontologia darwiniana, che assume la variazione aleatoria come forza motrice del processo evolutivo, Kupiec delinea una concezione anarchica del vivente che contesta l'idea di un ordine cogente inscritto nei geni. Gli organismi non sono società centralizzate di cellule che obbediscono al genoma o all'ambiente esterno, ma comunità cellulari autogestite che vivono per sé stesse e che per mantenere le proprie funzioni vitali sono spinte a cooperare, realizzando delle vere e proprie reti di mutuo appoggio. Ed è questa la nuova via che deve intraprendere la ricerca biologica per uscire dalle secche in cui l'ha spinta la genetica.
