So trägt auch dieser Band den Vortitel: 'Idées singulières. Première partie.' In diesem Werk Bretonnes geht es um die Legalisierung der Prostitution. Der erste Teil ist gestaltet in Form eines Briefromans zwischen einem Libertin und seiner Vertrauten. Hier entwickelt Bretonne eine Utopie legaler, vom Staat verwalteter Bordelle zum Nutzen aller. ‎Eins von 400 handnumerierten Exemplaren. Nachdruck nach dem einzig existierenden Exemplar. Als dieses bei Sotheby's versteigert wurde, sprach das Auktionshaus von der 'Quintessenz des Luderlebens' ("the quintessence of debauchery"), die Presse vielfach schlichtweg vom ältesten Porno der Welt ("world's oldest porn"). In dem Theaterstück geht es um den König von Sodom, der die freie Liebe propagiert, d.h. besonders den Analkoitus in allen Konstellationen. Aber es gibt auch eine Moral; das Land wird heimgesucht von einer Epidemie von Geschlechtskrankheiten und der König verliert sein Reich. Pornografisch in jeder Zeile, handelt es sich aber auch um eine Satire auf den Hof von Karl II., nach dem Sturz der Puritaner unter Oliver Cromwell - eine Zeit, in der Ausschweifungen an der Tagesordnung waren. Kein einziges Exemplar aus der Entstehungszeit konnte bisher nachgewiesen werden; auch eine Ausgabe des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde aufgrund des pornografischen Inhaltes vernichtet. Das älteste Stück geschriebener Pornografie in der englischen Sprache, hier zugänglich in einem bibliophil gestalteten Nachdruck. ------ Printed around 1725. Here: Facsimile reprint, no date. When this was auctioned by Sotheby's, the auction house talked of "the first printed pornography on English literature, a unique copy of the quintessence of debauchery"; the press just named it the "world's oldest porn". Sodom, fashioned as a 'closet drama', centres on a decision made by the lustful King of Sodom and its dire consequences. Bored by the "drudgery" of normal sex, the king decides to "set the nation free" by allowing "buggary" to be "us'd thro' all the land". Then follows scenes in which acts of copulation, buggary, masturbation, fellatio and bestiality are enacted, recalled or prepared for "of stage". Courtiers, ladies-in-waiting, and especially Queen Cuntigratia, contrive to find satisfaction with different partners and enthuse on the joys of sexual diversity. "Although in every sense, and almost every line, pornographic, the play has two primary purposes, one literary, the other political. One aim is the production of a hilarious burlesque, the other to satirise uncompromisingly the court of Charles II and he notoriously lecherous king himself" (Peter Beal). By the 19th century, only two copies survived. The one was destroyed in the 1830s by the executors of the great book collector, Richard Heber, horrified at finding it in his library. ‎Seltener Nachdruck, seltener als die Erstausgabe, dieses Lehrgedichts über die Kunst des 'Scheißens' ("l'art de chier"), ein Klassiker der Skatologie. In nur 102 Exemplaren gedruckt. Remard, Bibliothekar des Schlosses Fontainebleau, verfasst diese Schrift zur menschlichen Verdauung und ihrer Ausscheidung in wohlgeformten Versen, wobei die Bibliotheca Scatologica (Nr. 6, S. 4) die gelehrten und aufschlussreichen Anmerkungen Remards (ab S. 57) für noch amüsanter hält als die Gedichte selbst. Auf S. 60 findet sich z.B. eine Piron zugeschriebene Ode, über ein ernsthaftes Problem dieser Art, das König Ludwig XV quälte ("Louis avait l'anus bouché : [...]"). Remard, librarian of the Castle of Fontainebleau, writes this work on human digestion and its excretion in well-formed verses, whereby the Bibliotheca Scatologica (No. 6, p. 4) considers Remard's enlightening and scholarly notes (from p. 57) to be even more amusing than the poems themselves. On p. 60, for example, there is an ode attributed to Piron about a serious problem of this kind that plagued King Louis XV ("Louis avait l'anus bouché : [...]"). Remard, bibliothécaire du château de Fontainebleau, écrit cet ouvrage sur la digestion humaine et son excrétion en vers bien formés. La Bibliotheca Scatologica (n° 6, p. 4) considère que les notes savantes et révélatrices de Remard (à partir de la p. 57) sont encore plus amusantes que les poèmes eux-mêmes. À la page 60, par exemple, on trouve une ode attribuée à Piron sur un grave problème de ce genre qui a affligé le roi Louis XV ("Louis avait l'anus bouché : [...]"). La reliure est un peu frottée et les bords un peu abîmés. Légèrement bruni à cause du papier, premières pages avec petites rousseurs légères, bon exemplaire. Bibliotheca Scat. Cf. "Das Büchlein, das das Erwachen der Pubertät zweier Kinder schildert ... gehört zu den reizendsten und stilvollsten deutschen Originalerotika" (Bilderlex. II, 790). Der eigentliche Roman endet S. 68; es folgen 5 Anhänge, deren dritter Ernst und Minette erotische Lieder und Briefe, die übrigen humoristisch-philosophische Erörterungen mit sotadischen Episoden enthalten. A scarce and important piece of legal history which ESTC records at only one library Lincoln's Inn and which does not appear in the modern auction record. The present is the only example on the market. <br /> <br /> At the start of the Restoration "English church courts were revived by an act of Parliament on 27 July 1661 to resume their traditional task of correcting spiritual and moral misdemeanors. Soon thereafter parishioners across England's dioceses once more faced admonition fines excommunication and even imprisonment if they failed to conform to the laws of the restored Church of England" Aklund. As much as these courts sought to reestablish a monolithic Anglican communal identity during Charles II's reign their position in the 18th century became "a case study in the secularization of the legal system" particularly given their theoretical justification based in the problematic concept of divine right Harris. Numerous acts the present example among them "represented an important step in the direction of limiting the reach of of ecclesiastical jurisdiction" Harris. <br /> <br /> An Act to Prevent Frivolous and Vexatious Suits in Ecclesiastical Courts was passed in 1787 drawn from a bill presented in Parliament the previous year. Its major accomplishment was the removal of Church authority in the regulation of private sexual behaviors: "It shall be further enacted by the Authority aforesaid That no Suit shall be commenced in any Ecclesiastical Court for Fornication or Incontinence of for any striking or brawling." While the Church may have voiced its moral codes or enacted social shaming within its own communities it no longer had the legal authority to regulate or punish sexual behavior. Such secularization had significant benefits across a number of communities. For survivors of assault it ended the Church's ability to mandate that a woman marry her attacker; for queer communities it prevented Biblically based persecution; for sex workers it took away the risk of arrest or fines for conducting their livelihoods. Ultimately the jurisdiction of ecclesiastical courts over sexual behavior whether in the form of obscene or defamatory words sexual engagement and sensual pleasure was terminated by this act. Little to no legal regulation of sex would be enacted until the next century when the 1861 Offences Against the Person Act and a series of Contagious Diseases Acts would seek to give secular courts more control over individuals' bodies. <br /> <br /> ESTC N58717. Composts of Tradition was self-published and marketed aggressively in contemporary periodicals including The Masses and Pearson's; one such advertisement in the January 1915 issue of Pearson's outlines the book's intention: "It is not a book for prudes either male or female. It is a book for aggressive and advanced thinkers. Among other doctrines it advocates: 1 Sterilization of physical social and mental defectives; 2 Annihilation of the stigma attached to the bar-sinister; 3 Encouragement of reproduction upon the part of the fit; 4 Maintenance of all children by society; 5 Monogamy but marriage ceremonies to be optional not obligatory; 6 Divorce by collusion." At least one of the stories "Maid of the Neptunian Strand" has fantasy elements. <br /> <br /> Oscar Morrill Heath c.1872-1952 was a Chicago secondary school teacher and lecturer-for-hire on social subjects; beginning about 1905 through at least the 1920s we lose sight of him around 1930 he was the proprietor of a Chicago correspondence school for schoolteachers The Cultural Review School through whose auspices he issued a few ephemeral publications as well as a monthly magazine Teaching As A Profession. Additionally thanks to the trade card mounted in the front we know that Heath was the proprietor of at least two Chicago beauty parlors. From contemporary newspaper acccounts it appears that the current work landed Heath at least temporarily in hot water; the Chicago Tribune for November 6 1913 includes an article stating that Heath's status as an instructor at Englewood High School was "under review" pending publication of a book that was "critical of the nuptial bond" and seemed to condone childbirth out of wedlock. It is quite possible that Heath lost his position over the book as in subsequent years we find him advertising his services as a freelance instructor in a variety of topics including a review course in math for candidates to Army Officers' Candidate School during WW1. <br /> <br /> Despite its fetching title the current work is somewhat uncommon with fewer than 20 locations in OCLC most apparently in circulating collections. ‎An album of photographs business cards and other ephemera from an early iteration of the famously exclusive Texas Latex Party TLP held annually in Houston. The images were captured at the 2003 event held February 20-22 at the Adam's Mark hotel and resort. In the decades that followed TLP has grown into an international invite-only applicant-vetted four-day weekend of partying socializing and vending widely considered one of the world's leading fetish events.<br /> <br /> Included within this album are 78 photographic images shot digitally along with a CD of "Digital Pics" housed in a plastic sleeve mounted to the inner front panel. 53 images are professionally printed on 4" x 5 7/8" glossy stock while 24 images are printed two to a page on 8 1/2" x 11" inkjet paper. There is also a group photo by Frankovich printed on 8 1/2" x 11" stock which shows roughly 70 people. The images capture scenes of socializing with most individuals in full latex as well as what appears to be an outfit contest. There are also several shots of a lavish meal which are preceded in the album by the printed Fetish Dinner Menu for February 21 and the Fetish Lunch Menu for February 22.<br /> <br /> Other materials in the album include a detailed welcome letter an attendee wristband-ticket two postcard-size advertisements for The Baroness fetish retinue in New York eight business cards four hotel key cards several nondescript Texas postcards two pocket maps a receipt from The Custom Shop in Houston and ephemera from the Adam's Mark hotel. <br /> <br /> The materials are housed in plastic sleeves within a black three-ring binder with the event title and the attendee's name withheld stamped in gold on the front panel. Andante-Adagio (2-3). 2. Allegretto-Presto-Allegro (4-6). Lento Maestoso-Allegro vivace-Largo espressione-Allegro moderato (7-10). 4. Scherzando Allegro-Finale (11-13). Das Bilderlexikon kennt dieses Werk von Somoff nicht (vgl. Bilderlex. II, 812.) In ebd. II, 342, wird eine "Wiener Kunstgewerblerin" vermutet (dort auch mit 2 Abb.) Hayn-Got. Im Gegensatz zu seinen sonstigen Arbeiten mit zwar erotischen, aber meist derb und folkloristischen Motiven, zeichnet sich diese Folge durch hohe Konzentration und Verdichtung aus. Stikas Paare geben sich der Liebe in intensiver Sinnlichkeit hin. Auf dem letzten Blatt mit Impressum scheint sich der Künstler selbst darstzustellen: ein liegender bekleideter Mann mit Zigarette und Pinsel in der Hand, vor ihm eine liegende nackte Frau mit erwartungsvollem Blick. On the last sheet with an imprint, the artist seems to be depicting himself: a reclining clothed man with cigarette and brush in his hand, in front of him a reclining naked woman with an expectant look.
